Do you hear your own voice when you think?

What are you thinking? And who do you hear? - Thinking - Do you hear yourself?

I was talking with my son a minute ago about something he said he had been thinking about and I asked him (out of the blue) if he heard himself when he thought. He had to stop and, you guessed it, think about it before he knew. Apparently he does hear his own voice when he thinks. He hears other people's voices when he thinks of what they said to him though. So I thought about it and I do hear me too. I also hear the other person if I am thinking of something someone said to me. Ironically, my father was deaf (went deaf at 23) and I asked him who he heard when he thought and dreamt (I asked him years ago, not just now as he has passed away.) and he heard himself too. But he wasn't sure what he heard was his real voice. Anyway, do you hear your own voice when you are thinking about something or do you hear a different voice or someone else's or just a generic voice? What about when you are reading? Do you hear your own voice? Crazy question but "I gots ta know!"

Yes, I do hear my own voice in my head when I'm thinking of something to say, and when I'm reading. But if I'm thinking of someone else saying something, or something that person has said, then I hear his/her voice instead. I think the voices I hear aren't quite the same as in real life, though. The voice I hear in my head is also a bit more fluent than me in real life, because when I actually open my mouth to speak, I often lose track of what I'm saying and my sentences end up a bit messy and confusing.

Yes I can hear and feel my inner voice, I do a lot of talking with myself, I generally believe to solve my problems by my own thoughts and thus I discuss a lot within

Usually a deeper toned version of my own voice. i have a very high pitched voice that annoys everyone (including me) so i alter it in my brain to be more attractive, heh.

I think so. I hear my voice when I think. I think that's somewhat natural since it is our mind thinking. and then, when I read, I think what I "hear" in my mind are the character's voices if the author provided a good voice description or if the book has a movie version and I first saw the movie before I read the book. ^__^

yes of course, every time i think my voice would always be the loudest among everything because mostly it is where i made and follow my decisions to do. when i think of something, especially when I'm alone, i always say everything what i think in my mind so loud. or even when i memorize of something, i always utter it a loud because it helps me ( for me ) understand what I've been thinking.

Yes I do hear my own voice when I'm thinking. It became more apparent when I went to live in Chile for 3 years, everytime I spoke in my broken spanish I'd hear my voice in English trying to translate, often had headaches by the end of the day lol!

I think when we ponder over something, we listen to our voice, actually I feel two voices keep on coming, one from my heart and one from my head and both tell me to execute a task in two different directions. I go by my heart, in most of the case. Good Post indeed!

When I'm thinking my own thoughts I hear my own voice. When I'm thinking about what someone else has said or written I will hear their voice instead. I do the same when reading things. It gets tricky here since I have no idea what any of you sound like. Usually I get an idea of a personality if I've read enough of a person' posts so I can put a voice to it that fits the personality I think the person has. This gets really confusing when I misinterpret the person's gender. There is just something odd about hearing a man's voice while reading about childbirth...and yes, I have made that exact mistake before!

Yes ~ I do hear my own voice. And I hear other people's voices if I'm remembering a conversation. Unfortunately, I'm bipolar. And sometimes I hear strangers' voices & it is usually quite disturbing.

No I Think that its a very interesting question, and yes I too hear my own voice when I am thinking to my self as well as when I read. Fun thing is when I was 9 mo preg. and I was trying to get everything ready before my daughter was born, and I'd be thinking to myself what still needed to be done and what not, well I didnt not notice it but I would start saying what I was thinking out loud, LOL my hubby came home one night to me babbling to my self and he repeated what I beleived I had just thought (but really said it) I looked at him and told him GET OUTTA MY HEAD!!! I had thought he had read my mind we got a very good laugh out of it! After he told me I was talking to my self I no longer actually talk while thinking it stoped as soon as I came home from the hospital!

Hey wotfpatty, this is very interesting question: you can hear yourself or others voices when you think, it doesn't mean you hear them through your ear! it's through your mind because you are refleting things people say to you or thinking about your problems, your mind will be giving you ideas on how to handle the situation thats the voice you are hearing, even the deaf can hear himself.

Which voice? Huh??? Which voice???? I hear them all!!! and they don't like me...... Seriously, I hear the voice of the person who said what I'm thinking, unless I've never heard their voice, then I make one up. I think our voices sound different to us than to everyone else, so what we hear is our "version" of our voice, not what everyone else hears.

hi wotfpatty,i won't call it crazy question but related to our normal thought process:)whenever i think [which i do a lot..so ask me everything about thinking.;)]i do hear my own voice.about the other person's voice ..well it depends upon what i am thinking..if i am thinking about myself only like related to my daily routine or what i have to do now and then..then i hear only my own voice.but when i am thinking about some other person's conversation with me like what he/she said to me..then i hear that person's voice along with my own voice in case of a conflict or anything like that..thats about me.

Yes, I hear my own voice too when I am thinking or when dreaming. It is such a mystery how we can hear voices in our heads but it is a real fact. I think everybody hears their own voice inside their heads all the time. It is normal to experience it. I've asked my husband too, out of the blue and he said he heard his own voice too. I've asked my mother, my sister and some of my friends. All of them said they hear their own voice. I don't know where it came from, and I guess it will still be left a mystery.

Never thought of it before, but you know what? Now that I do think about it, it is true, I do hear myself, when it's my own thoughts, and when I'm trying to remember something that someone said, then it is the particular person's voice. Very interesting. Cool crazy discussion. I love it when things just sometimes pop into my head, and the only person it makes sense to is me.

If I'm trying to work out a problem of my own, yes I hear my own voice talking back to me. But if it's something I'm trying to figure out that someone else said to me I repeat it back in their voice, then answer in my own. It's an interesting question :D

That's really interesting! But I don't "hear" me when I am thinking. I stopped and thought about your discussions and tried to listen but I couldn't hear my voice. It's not my voice and it's not anyone that I know of. I think it's just a background voice I associate when I am thinking *laughs*. But that's a really interesting topic. I will definitely test out with some of my buddies and see if they hear them too *smiles*.

No, I have never experienced this. When I first heard my own recorded voice, I didn't recognized as my voice. It really sounds different and new for me. Strange but true.

i dont hear my voice when i think, but i know people who do. but i hear other strange things, if you would believe it. i had begun to hear lions roar from the sky and i thought that was amazing. in the middle of the night i hear people speaking as if thay know what i am thinking. i have been through a time when i felt that people could read my thoughts. and have recently read a few articles on this kind of thing. apparently, it is not good and it is not our fault. the evil one will do any thing to disturb us from our daily peace. as has been mentioned in the Holy Books. we should just ignore it and seek refuge in GOD ALMIGHTY. anything that is not peaceful and calm and disturbs us is not from GOD i believe. here if you want to know more, apple. prayers forever.
