What was your child's first b'day party like? I've heard to be prepared and that my child will be miserable.

It is so long ago for our son that I cannot remember exactly but I do recall that my late darling grandmother said that when children are very young the party is more for the family than the child. LOL
She also told me that I should keep it simple, not overdo it with the number of people invited and most of all to make sure that our son had a sleep before the guests arrived. :)

I totally agree. It's all for the family. My daughter isn't going to have a clue and probably will hate the cake. :) I really want to keep the guest list small but my husband has a lot of family in the area. We're afraid they'll be mad if we don't invite them, but they don't see my daughter often so I don't think it matters.

I don't think my daughter really had a clue what was going on. We went to grandma and grandpa's house which she always loved to do. But other people were there, and they messed up her expectation of what it's like going to grandmas. She fell asleep sitting at the table before we even had cake.

Awww...I bet that was cute, but disappointing that she fell asleep. I've been wondering what my daughter will do. She naps randomly still and I hope she gets a good nap in before everyone comes over. We thought about having the party at her grandparent's house but we thought we'd give it a try on our own. We may regret that later.

It was great. I had a Care bears birthday party, and some other kids were there, but it was toddlers, no babies. It wasn't really a mess. But don't make the party too big or too long. That's a recipe for disater.

I'm trying to figure where the fine line is between inviting all of our families and only inviting people my daughter sees on a regular basis. I don't see the point in inviting family that has only seen my daughter once just because I don't want to hurt their feelings. She tends to get upset in big groups of people, especially when there are a lot of men.

very messy..had her own piece of cake and it was all over her, in her hair, on her face. But she loved it, she had a blast. Her theme for her party was "Dora the explorer" but we got her a little small personal cake just for her. There was more on the floor and her body..then she actually ate *lol*
But the 1st birthday is always one to remember!

I think we're going to have an Elmo theme for her party. I was going to do princesses, but she loves Elmo and has no idea who the princesses are....I'll save that for a later birthday. I'm nervous and excited (and a little sad. :( ). I'm mostly worried about how many people are going to be crammed into the house...it'll be too cold to go outside.
