Are you important enough that a company won't work without you?

In my opinion, no, no one could say he/she is as important as the company won't run withou him/her. It's just like the world keeps turning around even the greatest leaders/guys pass away. Personally, in my company, even a manager's leave won't bring much affection here, he/she would be replaced by another guy 3 days after he/she leaves. It happens the same with a normal worker here. So never regard yourself too important you are in a company unless you are actually running the company. Quite oppositely, a man is of great importance in a family, he/she could be replaced by any one in the family. However, a man/woman who has a job won't spend much time with his/her family since the job has taken up 1/3 or more of his life time. And man seems to have forgotten the truth that only the blood tie will never lose. Friendship, loveship or other relationship/ties is made up after we grow up, it would disappear one day if we don't maintain it. However, the family ties would last forever. So why not spend more time with your family from now on, and you are the one and the only one in the family, but you could be soonly replaced once you leave a company.

There is someone irreplaceable in my work place, but it's not me. Hehehehe... I would be bold to say that I am difficult to replace, but not impossible.

I did say it is possible to replace me. But since I work in a highly specialized field and people don't get fired or replaced in my organization, it is difficult to replace anyone. Unless you resign or retire, you can work here forever. That's because its really difficult to train new people (and i'm not just talking about new grads, even those with work experience). My organization occupies a special niche and by far, we share it with no one else. And I do enjoy my work. =)

Hi Jungle Girl, Even if you just just said quite few works, it is still appreciated to share your points with us. You are bold to say you are difficult to be replaced, but not impossible. Per the grammar, it still means possible here:) Just joking, let enjoy the work and be the best of it then we don't have to be replaced, we're capable of getting another company or higer position to replace the currect job/position.good luck. I like to think so, I am one of the supivisors on my floor and seem to get along with everyone very well, I do not think that my section would work as well without me being there.

Well in my job there's only about 3 of us who know what to do. So If I'm off sick or can't work, it really messes everything up because people have to do my job, and that leaves their section short of people etc. So it's not as thought the company can't work without me, it would work, just with great difficulty. Ha too bad I haven't told anyone taht I'll be leaving in a few months!! meh hehehe

You side it, Coffershot, a company would be in great trouble once you leave, but they could soon find a replacement. No matter how difficulty it will be after one's leave, they could stand it and there will also be a better way to slove the Gap here. Leaving soon from your current company? I might should say congratulations, since you will have a brand new start here. And will have quite some new friends there... Wish you a good new career. WBR,Andy

you're right, no one is indispensable to the compnay he/she works for. me? my company will just be fine without me, it would be slightly hard for my boss but he can be just fine too. However..No one could ever take my place in my family, more so with mu husband,I am a unique indiviadual and it's me who fits best for him :)

I have been in the workforce long enough to know that everyone yes EVeRYONE is replaceable. An important person may leave and yes for a moment the company might be in a funk but it is a short moment. I work some very undesirable hours and I think I am a good and dependable worker. I have been told by different customers that the store would fold if i were to leave. Such compliments are good for my little ego but little else. I have left this company at times and they do carry on quite well without me. I think it is a dangerous notion to think that you are indispensable...no one is!

Hi Sid, I couldn't agree with more here. It seems that you love your job quite well and you do pretty good in it. Yep, we are not so important as not being replaceable, but as what you said, whenever & whereever we are working, we could still regard ourselves the only one, yep, we are rare, and there is value in every rarity, so we are valuable in doing every job.:) ... Besides, the company runs well without you, but it runs better if you are there, isn't it? haha, good luck and have a nice day! Andy

I agree with you too that one company shouldn't stop running just because of your absence. My current company can still function well even I on holiday for long terms as my folders are being shared with security feature. For example, my colleagues still can access my files but they can't changed it, they have to save a local copy and amend it accordingly. Then, they have to save it using different version number.

I agree with you that at work, it doesn't matter where you work, everyone can be replaced is a day or two and the company won't even feel it. I was working in this hostel 3 years ago (it was just a summer job) and my boss was very pleased but the next years I couldn't work and she found someone else, I know that my boss wasn't very pleased with this girl so she called me the year after that to come back. I understand that some workers work better, they maybe work more or less but they are replaceble. In the family on the contary, each person is unique and can't be replaced, and if gone he/she will be missed and no one will ever be able to replace him/her. My family is very important with me and I like to spend time with them, I always talk to my parents and to my sister and we really spend a lot of quality time with them. I have so many friends who just run through their lives in order to earn money, in order to have a rich social life and to be seen in public. I really don't like all these things that much I prefer working in the garden with my grandma or even cutting the loan in front of my house with my Dad, or just sitting in front of the tv with my Mum catching up. Friends come and go while family stays for ever, friends can be good to you and help you but no one will ever do more for you than your parents and family have and will.

I don't agree with you on the role we play in our companies in a sense. Some work can be replaced but the spirit-place you act can't be replace.Just as microsoft may goes well without Bill Gate, but it will never hold the spirit that Bill bringed to it. However I can't agree more on your opinion towards the role we play in family lives. We indeed should spend more time with my family. And thanks for informing me that.
