I just took my 7 year cat to the groomer and had her hair shaved. She was loosing soo much hair that i just couldnt keep up with it any more. Now she looks like a small scared little rat.Cold and mad at me,she just sits there staring as if to say"Your not the mom i know, why did you do this".The groomer said it would be goo for her because it will help her to get rid of the furballs by having no loose hair to lick and it will grow back in 2-3 months. But my heart hurts from doing this, because i think i made her very unhappy. If you respond to this please dont be to hard on me,as i already feel bad enough.

Well I don't know wehere you live, but I am actually quite shocked that this was done without a good medical reason! Here in England, no cat would ever be shaved like this unless there was a skin disease that needed medication, or unlss the fur was so matted (maybe in a stray that had never been groomed), that it was causing the animal suffering), as it is a very cruel thing to do that can cause the cat unnecessary suffering. Anyway - you've done it now - no going back - so the only thing I can suggest is give the poor creature loads of love and TLC, and do NOT let her out if she is an outdoor cat. Even in Summer, lack of fur canmake a cat feel the cold incredibly, and they will also be set upon by other creatures because they look "different" and vulnerable. It will take an awful lot longer to grow back than 2-3 months too! One of my cats (Lily) had most of her fur from the belly and one side, shaved off in April to do a skin graft on her leg, after an accident. It is now almost September, and although it is growing back, she has nowhere hear got her good, thick, glossy coat back, and I have to put a heater on just for her, because she feels the cold so much. So I won't be too hard on you because I think you realise you made a dreadful mistake, but please take care of her, and please don't do it again!

She is a very spoiled cat with her own bed with warm blankies. She never goes outside the house. The groomer that i take my dog to said she does this often to cats.I trusted her word, because shes been grooming for decades and i never had a problem with my dogs grooming.Even the vet an hour from here said it was o.k.Shes well taken care of for the love thing. We learn through our mistakes i guess.
