Why is Indian law in such a bad shape?

I think Indian law is in terrible shape as it is still acting upon 1935 act which British rulers when they used to rule India are still followed. All the laws from 1935 must be changed according to the present year 2007. Many things have changed over the time. A simple example is of poilce law. Britishers used to control people of India as slaves and police was also doing that then. It has to be changed now as India is an independent country now.
