What is the best way to get rid of fleas on young kittens?

Just recently, my cat had kittens. She had them outdoors and they picked up some fleas. I immediately brought them inside but I'm not sure what the best way to get rid of the fleas is. I know that most flea products says to not use on kittens under 12 weeks of age. If anyone has some advice on this, I would greatly appreciate it. I don't want these precious kittens to suffer with fleas.

I would give them a bath. You can use plain old shampoo, or dishwashing liquid, if you don't have flea shampoo. After you've washed them, and rinsed them, dry them off good, and then, if fleas are still present, you can pick them off, and put them in the soapy bathwater. This is what I do, and have done for many years. I read it years ago, in a cat care book, and it works great. Just be very gentle with the kittens while you are bathing them. Try not to get soap in their eyes, and pet them softly while you're washing them. You don't have to hold them in the water, if you don't want. Just wet them, and soap them up, and leave the soap on for a few minutes, and then rinse them off. Believe it or not, some kittens even like it. I have rescued many cats and kittens over the years, and given many baths. It is much better than letting the fleas, make them sick, and/or kill them. Just remember, you need to get rid of mommys fleas too, otherwise, she'll reinfest them. Take care.

I would talk to the vet to find out best thing to do. If you give a bath make sure to dampen the top of the head carefully so not to get in eyes or nose first otherwise all the fleas will climb to the neck and head to stay dry, I learned this the hard way.
Good luck with those little babies :)

Would you really like a dog to respond to this discussion about flea ridden moggies, however I will restrain myself, because they are so young, you will need to discuss this with either a vet or a pet shop, I'm sure there will be some kind of anti-flea product which these kittens can use (probably not as effective as full strength ones), but might keep the fleas at bay until they are old enough for the other products.

Like the other have said, please call a vet! They're just babies. And, usually, if you tell the vet that a stray had kittens in your yard, they will give you a discount on medications, vaccinations, and spay/neutering. Good luck with your little kitties!!!

I would give them a wash in warm water with some kitten shampoo every few days. Dont use the flea dips or liquids they can cause problems. Get flea stuff for the mom thats safe for nursing cats.

Spray the yard twice, once one week, and again the next week. Using OFF spraying it on your hands then wipe it on the kitten, make sure the kitten is outside because the fleas will start jumping off. Make sure you wash all bedding and spray the area's they sleep good, if they come in the house use something a little less strong. They have OFF available for toddlers, just like the sunblock for kids. That is such a cute kitten it reminded me of my prissy when she was little is why I responded to your question.

Flea collars, flea pills, and a nice washing.. usually do the trick.

I would call the vet to ask what to do. Since even flea collars say not for kittens under 12 weeks. I dont know if a flea bath would hurt them or not. I'd call to make sure.
