Buy or Rent?

When it comes to VHS and DVD, do you buy your movies and start a collection, or do you prefer to rent them? Do you go to the Cinema often?
There's a few of my favourite movies that I have on DVD or VHS in a small collection at home, but personally I find buying them and going to the cinema too expensive to do on a regular basis.
I'd much rather own my favourites - the ones I can watch over and over, and rent the others.

IN fact I have never bought a DVD or VCD since I own my computer. We can download the latest movie or any one we
want to see. It's easy and cheap for us.
Why not?If you make a plan to watch movie in the sinema, you should buy a ticket beforehand and buy a large bag of socks.
But if we choose to watch movie on our PC,the above problems will not anoy us.

I like watching movies on the computer too. Question though, why should you buy a large bag of socks?

I mean food you eat when you are in the cienma,Not hose you wear on your feet.Do you understand?Maybe I used the 'socks' in a wrong situation. Thanks for your response.

As I do not watch television shows, I enjoy buying DVD movies to watch at home. I like drama, suspense, thrillers, detective stories, and musicals. Gone With the Wind is one of my favorites as well as Feet of Flames (Riverdance fame). Also enjoy Departed, The Negotiator.

I have a rather large movie collection but I have seen many, many more than I own. I try to go to the theater for the action movie where the big screen and good speakers make a difference for the special effects. I also like to go to the movies and prob go 1 or 2 a month. I usually rent the others from Netflix. I usually watch a movie every night. So I have a five at the time subscription. My very favs that I will watch again I usually buy or ask for, for Christmas. So I end with five or six new films in my library a year. Whats you favorite film?

My favourite film of all time is the Lion King.
It's been my favourite since I was a child, and always will be, it's just so good =P
My more 'grown up' favourite would probably be Requiem For a Dream.
Just a touch on the other end of the spectrum..
=D

me and my hubby are not much into movies. We do go but very very rarely. He is very fond of classical music and has maintained a good collection of cassettes and DVDs and VCDs too.

Well, it is better to buy DVDs of all time favourite and personal favourite movies because, it can also be a small collection of our own and also we can always take it and watch it whenever we feel like watching. But some movies which worth only one time watching need not be bought, renting would suffice.

I love watching movies at the cinemas. SO, dont buy DVD's a lot. I would rather rent the movies I havent seen. I think they are unnecessary baggage if u r moving around.

I find that I will buy the ones that I know I want to add to my collection because they are cheaper to buy when they first come out. If I'm not sure, then I just wait to see it on cable or might rent it. Then I sometimes will wait a few years to buy it after the price has gone way down. Just depends on the movie. We also borrow movies from the library since its free.

We rent our dvds from tesco's online, its much cheaper than going to the cinema and it means we can also catch up on series that we missed.its great because you can have up to 3 discs at once. we do try to get to the cinema for a few films like recently we saw the simpsons movie, because some are just meant to be seen on the big screen! we own quite a few of our favourites but they tend to be ones we've seen already and love!

If I see a movie at the movies that I really enjoy I will go and buy it when it comes out. Other than that we rent using netflix. watch a movie, mail it, get a new one in two days! And its cheaper than Blockbuster! I love it.
I like to go to the movies at least once a month. Its nice to go on an actual date every once in a while with my boyfriend. Sometimes staying in gets old, and we need to get out.

We don't ever go to a movie theater. It is way too expensive, especially when you factor in paying a baby sitter, since I don't think my 18 month old would sit still through an entire movie.
We usually buy movies if we are pretty sure we will watch them more than once. My son has a large collection already, because he goes through phases where he always wants to watch the same movie over and over. Right now it's the Elmo Potty Time DVD. He will bring it to me and say "Mama, It Elmo time to Potty!" He watches it almost every day.
I'm not even sure when the last time was that we rented a movie. We are more likely to wait until it comes on TV if we don't think we will like it enough to want to buy it.

Me myself, I tend to buy what I would like. I really hate to get them at full price($19.95 or more) unless I have the money to burn or what have you. Every so often, I rent them too to see if this is what I want or enjoy the movie.

It's been over a year since I've been to the movie theater. Most movies I want to see I just rent when they come out. I buy the ones I love so that I can watch them anytime I want to. There are a couple of movies I want to buy that I haven't been able to afford yet (the LoTR trilogy, for example), but eventually they'll be part of my collection.

I rent movies that I want to watch. Although I have few movies that I'd like to have a copy of my own to keep, but never had the chance to buy them. It's a waste of money and I have too much stuff gathering dust around the house already. I do not want to add some more.
I seldom go out to movies anymore. I just don't have time. I we can collect time, store it, and retrieve it for use later. I'd sacrifice more money on that than CD's, DVD's and stuff.

I've thought of that too - that afternoon that lasts forever - when you're waiting for that night or the next day. Store it up for later.

when it comes to DVD I buy my favorite movies for my collection. I seldom go to the cinema anymore except when the movie showing is really good. I just wait for the dvd copy of the movie to come out then I buy it. I agree its nice to have a collection of dvd movies, you can watcg them anytime you want. :-)
