In other words, why do some discussions have many responses, and others have none.
I can imagine how good it would feel if someone responds to your discussion and you can respond back and get a dialogue going.

I think the key ingredient of a good discussion in mylot which can definitely receive responses.. about 10 and more is " common ".. Like general problems,. mostly things that people can really relate to. In my old account before it was hacked ( www.mylot.com/meeming ) .. I just started off by common questions which is from my own experience.. Like "how to tell my friend that her underarm stinks? "..
I mean, good discussions are those that mostly people can really relate to and even state their own experiences. That is why in my account, I haven't started my own discussion yet because I am having a difficult time to think of what discussion to start that will really intrigue some people, people who can relate to my experience and people who can give their own opinions.. That is why, if you want to start a reputation and also earn more in mylot, I just post to discussions rather than to start one yet won't even receive any response. Best of luck to you!

hmm... that's true.... those are the type which i see most responses to.
I have begun liking myLot because of the varied topics of discussion that go in here.... and not for the money... because the money to be made is too little and I can make much more elsewhere with the same amount of time...
thanks for your reply...

Yes. You are definitely right. It is really enjoyable here even if earning here is not as fast as before. But slowly and surely.. you will eventually reach payout. It is really nice here. It's like you say your opinions and things, and your getting paid for it. :) Best of luck to you!

What are the key ingredients of a good discussion on Mylot?
I think there are several really. One is timing, I think posting at the peak of traffic helps greatly. It really gives your post the best time to be seen by the most sets of eyes.
Topic is also something of importance. Something I have not come across before will get me and other's many times. Or a topic that is rich in opinions, not just controversial, but something most of us can relate to.
The amount of questions asked also helps. I try to think of as many questions from that one topic for that one discussion as possible, so I am not limiting who can answer. For example, I will not ask simply, "Do you have a dog", but rather several questions to go along with that like "Do you want a dog?", "Have you ever had a dog?", and "Does someone you know have a dog?" BTW that is an example and no I have not started a discussion about dogs, :oD
Approach helps as well, I won't start a discussion to sound cocky, but warm and inviting. As if I am really interested in what the replies will be, cause I am. I do like reading other's thoughts. But I try not to sound like I am only asking for a point. You have spotted a few of these I am sure. Example is "Do you like air?", LOL
Also I love replying to posters that reply back as well as awards Best Response to those that really have earned it. To me this shows they are reading my work, which is important to me just as much as earning a point for it. So I will either invite that poster as a friend or bookmark their profile so I can keep an eye for their discussions.
Last and not least where you post it helps. I try to either not pick an interest or pick on many people seem to look under. For instance I posted a post under Ghosts, that come to find out many do not have as an interest, they have paranormal, but not ghosts. So picking a good popular interest will give your post more chances of being seen and a better reply rate.
