What do you do if you see a stray puppy?

We (me and my wife) love dogs. Whenever we see a stray pup without a mom nearby, we can't help but take it up. We keep it with us till we can find time to take him to the animal shelter.
What do you do?

I would probably ending up keeping the puppy for myself unless I knew for sure that I can't, then I will find a good home to place the puppy with. Taking it to the shelter is so unsure of a feeling for me. What if they put the puppy out because they can't keep it? I would prefer to know the puppy lives than not.

well, in india we don't have regular shelters.... and they don't put dogs out....
we would keep it ourselves, but we already have a dog....

I keep myself away from touching stray dogs, but yes, i do feed them whenever I see their innocent faces down... I know what they are feeling by looking at their faces, because I also have a pet dog of my own... And my pet is also quite friendly to all the dogs to whom I feed...
