Do You Sit Next To Or Across From Your Honey When At A Restaurant?

Do your prefer to sit next to (side by side) or across from your significant other when at a restaurant?
I'm always amused when I see couples sitting side by when dining out. Not that there's anything wrong with it. I realize it may be cozy and lovey dovey, but I personally prefer to sit across from my significant other so I can look into her eyes without having to crane my neck.
How about you? Do you agree with me, or do you think I'm all wet. Have you ever had a conflict with this issue? Perhaps your significant other prefers one style and you another? Do you compromise? Are you really a side by sider at heart but have converted to an acrosser because it makes him or her happy?

I always sit acroos the table from my wife...that way I can see her properly and carry on a conversation without getting a crick in my neck. If the kids are with us then we'll sit togeteher every so often but never when it's just us

I find this topic interesting and fun. I remember dating and being infatuated and wanting to be as close to my boyfriend and mostly sitting side by side holding hands or arms around each other. As we got more serious and infatuation wore off and reality set in, we were across from one another. Cause lets face it. Do you come to restaurant to do PDA or to eat? Eating is a serious business once that infatuation wears off. BUt now being married to him we still sit across from each other an usually have the kids in between us or all over us and can barely remember what it was like when it was just the two of us out to eat.

We usually get a booth as far away from everyone else as possible! Since we are (gasp) smokers we usually have tons of booths to pick from when we eat at places that have a smoking section. They don't have to have one for us to dine there. I don't like sitting at tables regardless of who I am with but if I'm out with my guy, I want it to be some place away from everyone else because we do tend to have the most bizarre conversations lol.

I prefer to sit across from my hubby so I don't have to turn my head to look at him. If I really need contact, I can hold his hand or rub against his leg with my foot. Now, when we're with another couple, we will usually sit next to each other so we are facing the other couple. Personal preferences I guess!

Perfect way to dine. I also do the same. As for others sitting side by side, I feel its their preference. We cant do anything about it.

My husband and I always sit across the table from each other. For two big reasons: I'm left handed and if I sit beside him we bump elbows. The other reason is that he is almost completely deaf in his left ear so if we switch sides to avoid bumping elbows, I will be yelling at him.:P I would rather sit across from him anyway. It's nicer to be able to see the person you are eating with.

For dining, sitting opposite the person gives you a better chance for discussion, conversation and eye contact. You also don't run into the problem of elbowing each other as you ply your fork and knife. My husband is left-handed and I am right-handed so this could be a problem if we ate side by side. Jabbing each other with our elbows doesn't lead to greater intimacy.
Of course for TV viewing, sitting in the park or just having a close moment or intimate chat, sitting side by sid on the same chair or bench is the only way to go.

I like to sit across from someone I'm dining with in a restaraunt so I can look at them as I speak to them.
At home I have the dining table in a spot where I can watch TV which is in the next room. If I have a guest, they sit at the head of the table on my left so I can STILL watch TV....lol.

It just seems more natural when we sit across from each other as opposed to sitting beside each other. That only happens if my son wants to sit alone or if we are with a big group of friends.

I usually sit across from him. His best friend and his girlfriend ALWAYS sit side by side, so if it's the four of us out for a meal than we don't really have a choice other than sitting side by side, since there's usually only 4 seats, but I find it a little uncomfortable.

It depends on what type of event or place we are attending. If we are having dinner I would rather sit across from my honey so we can have good eye contact during our conversation. If we are out and about in a lounge then my preference is to sit side by side with him so we can have a more intimate conversation.

Before we got married, we always sit next to each other. We only get to see each other twice a month, and when we do, we made sure that we catch up on lost time.^_^. But now, after being married for 6 years and one son, we usually sit across from each other. Because my son usually sits beside me.
This new sitting arrangement is much better for us. As what others have already said, sitting across from each other makes better eye contact and strain free for the neck muscles.

well when im with my honey i can seat everywhere because i know there is no rule on seating in a restuarant with my honey.... for me its much better if you'll seat anywhere for as long as your honey is near to you. i can do a lot of jokes when im with my honey...

I sit across from my fiance'. It's just easier to have a conversation with him and a little elbow room is always good unless you are with more people. I agree with you. It's kinda hard to talk to someone when you are straining to see them. I've never had a conflict with this issue. My man thinks the same way I do. Plus if we're sitting in a booth I like to sit with my legs across the bench.

I'm with you hart. I like to sit across from my hubby when we go out. This way I can look at him while we have conversation.
If we are with another couple, I will sit next to him. Usually if there is another couple with us, I talk to the woman and he talks to the guy~

It depends on the mood I'm in,I guess I like both. When I sit across from him I have soft voice so he has a hard time hearing me.At least if I sit beside him he can hear me.

Hi Hart57! I personally prefer sitting across my hubby when dining out because it is a lot more comfortable, I can move freely when I am getting or reaching out for the food. LOL! My hubby prefers it sitting across me also but when there are some instances that we do sit side by side, then it is alright too. It never has been an issue between us. Take care and have a nice day!
