Have you ever found out you were singing the wrong words to your favorite song?

I hate to admit it, but i have plenty of times. Sometimes it will be a song that you know all the words to, but one line of the song and you have to keep repeating it to try to figure it out. Some songs you think the person is saying one thing and I know when I find out the real word I'm always like 'now the song makes sense.' If it's really bad, I'll sing what I know and hum what I don't. lol. what do you do when you don't know all the words, or when you found out you were singing the wrong words to your favorite song?

Yeah, that has happened to me a number of times.. Infact, when that happens, I try inserting other words which sound the same as the originals, but ofcouse, after singing that Refurbished song, there is no sense to it... Hehe..lol

By the time I figure out what the real lyrics I'm used to singing it my way so I just continue to do so...it's more fun that way anyway. I also like making up my own lyrics for the fun of it.

When I was a teenager I got a new album and was listening to it with my then best friend. We were singing and it came to a line that we both sang different lyrics to. We argued back and forth until finally we checked the cover where the lyrics were printed. She was right, and I was wrong. After that, if I don't know for sure the words, I'll either not sing it or look it up on the internet. LOL

Hello ranitam!(",) I'm guilty as charged.lolz...I just found out that I'm singing the wrong lyrics of the song "Only Reminds Me of You". I always sing it this way, "but, each time I hide it only reminds me of you," but the real or correct lyrics is, "But each place I hide, it only reminds me of you." Now, I sing it correctly. Great day and God bless!(",)

I know a lot of times I sing the wrong words to a song that I dont know. But most of the time I know im singing the words wrong because for a lot of songs I dont Even know some of the words to the song so I make it up that sound close to it and I know half the time my sister points out the words to me wrong but I usally dont find out unless if I look up the lyrics then for some reason the words just seem to be a lot clearer.

i know what you mean, it's been times where it took me a while to even know the title of the song and i'd be calling it something else.

Personally when I like a song I actually look up the lyrics online to learn them- BUT- I have this friend at work that literally makes up words to songs because she likes her version better. For example- The song Umbrella by Riana- my friends sings instead of Umbrella- ella- ella she will sing "Under my arm foreva, eva, eva...LOL. She does this to almost all the songs she likes...LOL She makes us laugh with her versions

Her version doesn't sound too bad either. I do that with a couple songs to cater them to my situation. Thanks for the response.

all the time - if I've read the lyrics at some point I tend to hear them clearly too but sometimes I still hear the wrong words. I'm listening to the dvd-audio mixes of Neil Young's Greatest Hits and the last lines of After The Gold Rush are They were flying Mother Nature's silver seed to a new home in the sun. Flying Mother Nature's silver seed to a new home but because he fudges it on the last line it sounds like sounds like 'flying...to a gnome'

I had a Neil Young songbook that had the last two lines as: "Flying Mother Nature's silver seed to a gnome in the sun/ Flying Mother Nature's silver seed to a gnome" I still sing it that way, though I understand that he doesn't. I like to think "gnome" is the original, and he changed it to suit how everyone heard it. It seems to fit his personality better. I mean, what is "silver seed" anyway?

When I was younger, I think I did more humming than singing LOL Now that I'm older and can find the lyrics to any song on the net...I get to sing along more. AT PEACE WITHIN

I am always doing that and I even change the melody as well. My friends are always asking which song I am singing and they try to teach me the right lyrics and melody. I never learn :D

When you have sung a song a certain way for so long it is hard to change it to how it is really suppose to be, and sometimes your words might go better with the song than the real ones...lol. thanks for your response.

yeah sometimes I sing out of tune and sing the wrong words, to avoid another embarassments, I download the lyrics and practice singing on my own once again so as not to make the same mistakes the next time

Yes I have done this a lot of times, and once I figure out the right words, I still end up singing what I thought was the right words to begin with.

LOL of course. I do that all the time. then come to find out i like the words i was using better. i remember as a little girl i use to sing this song all the time and when it came to the part of the song that i loved i use to whisper the words because i thought they were cursing. come to find out that was not the case, but i like it better thinking they were saying a bad word. it made the song more fun

Hi there. LOL, Yes I have found that Ive been singing the wrong words to a certaint song, all through being corrected by my children, which when I think of it, I have a little laugh to myself...

It does seem like kids always know the correct words to a song. I guess they are more prone to be singing with their friends or looking it up on the net. Thanks for your response.

Hi ranitam22! OMG, all the time! I guess, my hubby got used to hearing me sing some songs with different words and off key. LOL! He always tell me that if I really love him, I should stop singing altogether. LOL! But of course that is just a joke that my hubby loves to tease me. Take care and have a nice day!
