Wicca.
Not many people really understand Wicca. And because of this, there is a lot of discrimination against Wiccans and Pagans alike. I'm a follower of Wicca and I've noticed that there are a lot more people willing to admit their belief or interest in such nature centered religions. What some people dont realize is, just because you want to study or practice Wicca does not mean you must practice witchcraft and such. And contrary to popular belief Wiccans DO NOT worship satan. What are your views on Paganism and Wicca? Id like to hear opinions. Please do not write hurtful or hateful posts. I will just turn you into mylot.

I happen to like the idea of turning people into toads especially those Christians who seem to want to convert me. Oh do I wish it were possible...
Last weekend my father-inlaw came out to the house to tell us we needed change in our lifes. Change into Southern Babtists that is, because you can't find god in any other religion apparently. Sometimes I get soooo tired of being preached at. If I was interested in a religion I'd go to that church. I don't go to someones house or work and tell them that their a bad person and going to hell what makes them think they should?
As I remember the bible says THOU SHALN'T NOT JUDGE, but isn't that exactly what their doing? Judging me and my personal beliefs.
Sorry if that got to be a bit of a rant, I've been rubbed a bit raw lately.
I think I need to spend some time grounding myself this weekend. I haven't visited the great oak lately & I probably should.

It's true, there is a lot of discrimination against the religion and their followers. I think Hollywood is mostly to blame.
I think people are often afraid of what they don't understand. I'm a wiccan and my husband is a christian and he frowns upon the path I chose, but he has come to accept it.
I think a lot of christians don't know that a lot of their holidays are actually based on pagan holidays.
As with everything though, people just need to be educated, but there will always be the ones who don't want to even try to understand.

"What are your views on Paganism and Wicca?"
Paganism - an umbrella term describing a large number of different religions and spiritualities, focusing either on the forces of nature, as deity or just as forces, and/or the spirits of the ancestors.
Witchcraft - the practice of Magic. usually such as folk magic, sometimes more ceremonial in nature. Witchcraft, like any other craft, lets say carpentry for example, can be practiced by someone of any religion, or none at all.
Wicca - a Pagan religion, fairly modern in origin, coming to wider public knowledge round about the 1950s, following the repeal of the Witchcraft act in 1951. it was started by Gerald Brosseau Gardner, and is based on ceremonial and ritual magic groups, such as freemasonry and The Golden Dawn. it also incorporates Witchcraft, and Classical Paganism, as well as more UK based folkloric beleifs. it is an initiatory mystery tradition, with a system of "degrees" or different levels of initiation.
quite right. a lot of people don't understand Wicca.
I'm not Wiccan myself, it's far too structured for me, and I prefer to work solitary. I'm just a Traditional Witch with Pagan beleifs.

First off, I have to say you did take a risk by asking the question...
"How do you feel about Wicca?"
Then you asked people not to post hateful things or you would report them?
The fact is some people do feel very strongly against Wicca. Some people will never changes their minds about that.
If you're going to practice Wicca and going to be open about it, I think you're going to have to prepare yourself for the fact that some people are going to tell you exactly how they feel and they won't be completely supportive about it.
That being said.
This is how I feel about it.
I am curious about it, but not to the point of wanting to practice it.
I respect it.
I respect all religions.
My personal beliefs are a combination of several religions.
I was raised Catholic, but I do not believe that Wicca stems from evil, as many Christians believe.
I friend once said to me that nature comes from God. God put these things her for us to use.
That belief hit home with me and I agree with that.
I believe in God. I believe in Christ, but I also respect Wicca and the Native American beliefs as well.
I haven't studied much about Wicca so some of my ideas may be things I picked up from reading that could be inaccurate.
I've heard references to "Mother Moon". I'm not sure if I believe in that. I'm not sure if I believe in "The Goddess". I do believe that women have a lot more stregnth that most people give them credit for.
I do know that the moon has a strong influence on the earth. I just don't know that I believe in those titles.
I am very interested in learning about Wicca although I don't think I will ever practice it.
Sometimes I think somewhere inside of me, something pulls on me toward that life and I probably have the ability to be open to things that are outside of Christian tradition, but I chose not to open myself up to it. Make sense?
Good luck with your discussion.
I hope you don't get a log of negative feedback, but I just though you should know that sometimes you will get that.
My philosophy on negative people is that fighting fire with fire doesn't always work. Sometimes it's best just to let them say their piece til they run out of steam and gas.
Take care.

Just because you are against it, doesnt mean you have to be hateful. And by hateful or hurtful comments, I did not mean that they couldnt write about how they are against it. I would just feel that they shouldnt reply just to say something like, "Wiccans are satanistic, devil worshipping sl*t bag something or others." Posts of which are already illegal to post on mylot.
Im very tolerant of the fact that not everyone shares my beliefs in the wiccan religion.
As I dont believe everything in the Christian religion.
That is all I meant with the comment I posted.

For the most part the western countries seem to acknowledge some of the non christian religions from other countries and cultures such as Buddhism, Islam, etc, but they do not seem to get that prior to Roman invasion most western European countries had spiritual values that were not following the Christian traditions.
Some use the argument that the Christian faith survived, is proof of its validity.
However despite the church's persecution, and murder of those who had different faiths, and their using political power and power of violence to sway others, the Nature based faiths still existed perhaps underground but they still existed, and it is from this that modern Wicca comes from.
I do not think I really know much about it, however it is my understanding that it is a spiritual value system based on respect of life all live, the life essence that is found yes in people, yes in some higher spirit and in everything around us nature, included. It is based in showing respect for all live included the life found in nature.
I could of course be wrong, and from what little d I have learned of the Native Traditions in the Americas again, those who had political power tried to control and destroy the spiritual values of a group of people who were different, through abuse, violence and conquering polictical power.
And the Native traditions seem to be about respecting life, and the spirit in all things including respect of life and nature.
So while I could be wrong but what I have learned of Wicca, Witta, and Native Traditions is that they are spiritual values or [religions] based on being intune with Nature and ALL THAT IS.
That Witchcraft like Voodoo, is a spiritual value system or even religionous ideal based on getting in tune with the energy and power similiar to the Nature based religious ideaology, however that this can be used either positively or negativly
But then can't that be said for all spiritual values?
I mean with such you get in tune with the energy and vibration of all that is, to use the energy to help, to heal, to learn to grow or you use it for selfish gain, and even to harm others.
Well can't that be said of other faiths as well? I knew someone who followed muslim traditions this family focused on the positive aspects of caring for others, compassion etc, then you have the radicals or extremists who use their faith as a rally call to violence.
Christianity has been based on the teachings of someone who preached about peace, caring compassion, kindness helping others etc, yet over the centuries there is evidence of christianity being used as a rallying call to violence for those who may want to conquer others umm excuse me convert not conquer, [though if you look at the crusades seems more of conquer than conversion, if any asked the children of the Native Americans who were literally stolen from their homes as laws wouldn't let them live with their parents so they could be educated in christian schools if it was conversion or conquering I think they would say it was conquering, I don't see where starving, and beating children into conforming and giving up their values is converting]
So it isn't surprising that there are those who will put negative ideas onto the Wiccan traditions with out even knowing about it.

The thought and art of magic has transpired in every religion over the centuries. A good example the biblical King Soleman. The Magi who saw the star of Christ. In the bible there are many examples of the art of magic. I believe in live and let live. If someones choice is not harming people, there should be no issue.

I too have been fascinated with Wicca, but really don't know a whole lot about the spells and the correct way of doing them. I believe that a lot of the Christians have been brainwashed thinking their way is the only right way. That is why so many different kinds of religion exist, to choose your own and don't down another ones belief.
