My Chinese Name is Zainan Liu, you could call me Andy.
Yep, I got the same English name as Mr. Andy Lau, who is a Hongkong Pop Star, but I din't have the name because of I am his fan or something.I actully didn't have and English name before the Double-Ninth (Chong Yang)Festival in year 1999. In Chongyang Festival, Chinese people would normally climb the high mountain, we do it might because the whether is neither too hot nor too cold during that day.
I happend to have broken my leg during the sports meeting in the last week betore CY festival, but I insisted to join in my classmates to clmin the Yingna Mountain, which is 1 of the highest mountain in my hometown. It took us 2 and a half hours to climp up to the top, and it was already 8 o'clock then. We made a decision to stay there till next morning so that we 20 people could see the sunrise together. We stayed there playing cards, as there was some light there. But as times went on, it went pretty cold there, since it was 1500 meters high, the temperature would drop 9 degress than the ground tem. We couldn't stand the low tem. there and had to crowd with each other to get warm. We didn't so till 2 am and couldn't stand it any more and didn't to go back to the hotel in the midder of the moutain. Everyone of us helped with each other when going down the moutain as it was much more difficult when getting down there. My leg hurted more during that courses, and couldn't get that quickly. Two of my good friends supported me with their arms all the way till the hotel. Really moved by their kind help whenever I think back this story. And it happend that it is Zhixun's birthday then, so we celebrated his birthday that day in front of some fires.
Then about 6 o'clock, we decided to go to the bottom. And the two guys, zhixun(ZX) and ZhanChong(ZC) again helped me to get down and we were in the last of the team. So when we got a break, we three decided to recognize each other as brothers, since we knew each other better during this time's mountain climbing...
Then we decide to call each other serior brothers or younger broth per our birthday. i was the biggest one, then ZC was the 2nd and ZX is the 3rd. So I will call the ZC,2nd Brother,Eddie, which sounds like Er Di in Chinese, and call ZX Sandy, which sould like San Di in Chines. And I name myself Andy, which begins with A, the 1st number of the 26 characters, and when we put the 1st Character of our names together S(From Sandy), E(from Eddie), A(From Andy), it will be Sea, which represents the friendship and brothership among us will just be like the sea, forever long, and also the deepest & widest in the universe...
So that is why I get Andy as my English name, you know, Andy loves SEA!

There is nothing extraordinary. SADANANDA IS MY NAME
SADA in Kannada language (language of my state Karnataka in which my city Bangalore is cloated) means ALWAYS
ANANDA means happy. So this is the name my mother's brother kept it during cradle ceremony. It is a tradition that maternal uncle give the name to the newly born ones.

My given name is Lorna. I've never thought to find out what it meant before so here goes. I always thought that Lorna was Latin, however I just found out that it is Scottish of all things! I should have known as often when I tell people what my name is I usually say, "like Lorna Doone", who WAS Scottish.
Little story: When I first moved to the US a young lady I worked with always called me "Lorna Doone" however I never knew what she was referring to until I came across the "Lorna Doone" cookies in the grocery store.

My name is Thanh Binh, I have no name in English. In my country, Vietnamese, almost people have only one name. My name means PEACE. Everyone loves peace and hate war. Do you agree with me? I am proud of my name.

Hello Thanh,
Thank you for sharing with your real name. Actually here in China, we normally just have one name, but as I work in a foreign company, we would normally call each other English name here, and I happened to have one in my high school...
And you know, more & more Chinese learns to speak English here, they would choose an English as well, you know, after all, Chinease Pin Yin is not that easy to pronounce for other guys.
By the way, do you happen to speak Mandarine? :)
WBR,
Andy
