I think that a lot of people don't know how to express themselves in a mature fashion. It is much easier to call names and insult. Some people do this out of insecurity and think it will make them look better to others. There are a lot of reasons that people intentionally insult people but really it is a sad practice. The thing about it is, it is much easier to be the one insulted than to be the one insulting. It is! Because.... the person who insulted you usually wants you to get upset, sad, angry to fulfill their needs. They want you to give them power over your emotions. All you do is ignore them, let it fly over your head, or just kill them with kindness. If someone was to insult my appearance, I just smile and shrug. If someone insults an opinion of mine I just ignore them.
Do not play the game with them. It takes too much energy and not worth it. Their insults should be received by deaf ears. Do not give them what they want.
