I am raking my brains trying to come up with an idea and/or a way to close off my outdoor porch to the strong southern sun. I would love to make some sort of cabana style curtains that I can let loose or tie back depending on weather conditions, so I need some sort of fabric that is fluid enough to be draped or tied back, but durable enough to withstand some types of weather. Does anyone have any fabric suggestions or ideas, I would love to hear them. I would also like to know if anyone has any other ideas for closing off an approximate 6X8 porch, without spending too much money, or pounding nails in the siding to put up walls or lattice. We really want something sort of semi permanant we can easily move or draw back, with maybe a little Victorian flaire if possible, hence the drawback curtains idea. Thanks for any and all responses in advance. You MyLotters ROCK!!!

Check otu the home improvement videos at Expert Village: http://www.expertvillage.com Sailcloth would be my first guess, it's durable, weatherproof and relatively cheap- it also comes in a heck of a lot of colors, too! :)

thank you, I will have to research your suggestion. Where does one find sailcloth, is it the fabric actual sails are made from, and is it expensive, or something you have to special order. Thanks for the link, I will definatley check that out. Anyone else have any great ideas also.

this may sound odd, but bear with me... what i suggest is painters cloths...they are very large, thick, durable canvas that can be painted (obviously) or left beige... i saw this idea in a magazine and bought two for my couches as a covering...they are only about $10-$20 each so thats not too bad...not very victorian, but you could add flounces and tie backs or whatever... anyways, just a thot :-)
