The "Race Card"

Why is it that people have to pull out the "race card" so often? I was recently reading a discussion on Nicole Richie's "time" in jail and someone said that if it was a black or hispanic, that they would have had to serve more time. Why do people use that race card? I mean, really? The reason celebrities don't serve real time is because they are CELEBRITIES. It has nothing to do with their race, and if you want to bring race into it...Nicole Richie is part black. I understand that minorities are still oppressed by the ignorant people in this country, but why is it always about race to some people? Why do some people still blame their hardships on the fact that they are black or hispanic. I didn't grow up rich, or even any where near well off. I grew up lower middle class, my parents worked their butts off and still do. I had to get scholarships and loans to pay for college because my parents couldn't afford it. My family had hardships and times where ends were NOT going to meet, but I never blamed it on the color of my skin. Crap happens. It happens to every one. Luck doesn't know skin color, and no race is beneath working hard to go farther in life.

We are now in the 21st century, yet it is still very difficult to avoid race discrimination. It really makes us feel sad about it. I am glad that in China we don't have this discrimination. We have fifty-six races, but we live in the country like one big family. I am wondering why race discrimination still exists in America since it is such an advanced and civilized country. I just couldn't the answer to it.

People are still so ignorant, and have chips on their shoulders. There are people who hate blacks to this day because their parents were stuck in their ancestors ways, but there are also black people who hate white people because THEY are still angry about what happened with slavery over 100 years ago. I think the whole country needs to have their memory altered to forget all of that crap that happened, because that is the source of all of the anger. I'm a caucasian who is tired of being hated by black people for something that neither me nor my family took any part of. So it's unfair to both races that there is still hatred there about a situation that took place before any of us were even though of.

If only this kind of situation could be changed, it would be very nice. I am looking forward to the arrival of that day when there will be no race discrimination but harmony in each country. Thanks for your response.

You answered your own question. If oppression still occurs, then the race card is played in the daily lives of minorities. If you go to any message board. If a person is being charged happens to be a minoirity. WE have so many ignorant people, saying blacks are this and that, the N word is used. So what happens is that the minorities start defending their race and the any discussion after that is offtopic. It is unfortunate that those persons that use racism online in reality only represent a small majority of the population. People get along bettr and are more accepting today of each other. Then the media hypes it up and also plays the race card.

I understand what you're saying. Sometimes I just feel like when people say "It's because I'm black, isn't it?" when something unfortunate happens to them, that they are just making excuses. I mean, if someone says something against their race, by all means, defend it. But if race color and creed have nothing to do with the situation, then leave it out of it. Some minorities just want to bring race into every situation.

I think it is a double edged sword. Both Caucasion and Black people play the race card. You hve the Caucasion people using every event to practice racial Epithet and slurs, which has nothing to do with the topics at hand. You have African Americans using it to say, it is because we are black.
