Why Indians do overtime?

I feel in India the people working in private companies are doing overtime that is sitting extra hours without any reason, even if they dont get any extra money! My openion is try ones best in the working hours and pack off. One must understand that not all people want to lick boss's shoes or whatever! Just because some people work overtime they make fools of people who are interested in other things like family,hobbies and other entertainments! If there is more work the employer should hire more staff or star shift system like call centers. The problem is that 'over working' people have better chances of getting promotions though the other people or equally or more qualified. I wish that employees should be united in this issue.I feel it is perfectly a democratic approach.Kindly writ your openions.
