When the telephone rings...do you just HAVE to answer it...let's face it...there are times when the telephone is not really a convenience that we wanted it to be when we originally got it.....
I have learned not to feel obligated to answer a ringing phone but it is a talent that I just recently obtained...LOL
Do you HAVE to answer a ringing phone??? Do you turn off the ringer so that you do not hear it??? DO you lwt the machine pick up and screen calls???
What type of phone owner are you?

I used to feel I had to answer the phone when it rang. But now that I have Caller ID, I only answer it when I want to talk to the person calling. I've found, though, that if I don't answer the telemarketing calls, they just keep calling and calling and calling until I do answer and tell them to stop calling.

In many areas you can have your name added to the "do not call list"....

No, I usually don't answer the phone when it rings unless I know who the caller is and I want to talk to them. I never answer it if I am busy unless it is husband or kids. I wouldn't mind not to have a phone as I think it is a nuisance most of the time.I keep it as the kids need to call for different reasons and my husband travels alot.

I hate the telephone! In fact it unnerves me when it rings, and nearly always I let the answer machine take the call, especially if it is my housemate, I pretend I am out! It's nearly always for him anyhow, so that's the wonderful invention called the answer machine. I never answer it and it helps to screen the calls and block those people who I don't want to talk to!

I guess I must confess that often I let my answering machine screen my calls! I will stand and listen to see who begins to leave a message and if I want to talk to them I will pick up and if not, I don't! More often than not I go ahead and pick up, but there are many times for certain callers, I don't pick up!

at home, its not really a problem to me. it only becomes annoying when I'm the only person at home and that would mean I will have to answer the phone. and even if I'm used at answering phone calls at the office, I feel so lazy to answer one when at home. but I know I have to because maybe its an emergency or maybe its a relative from abroad.
I rarely get phone calls for me though. my friends were not used to calling me, they'd rather send me a text message. we basically use the cellphone to communicate. ^__^
I think when there's a call in the landline, we can't get careless and snob the call because we don't know if its urgent or not. although there are phones with caller ids, not all have it. so we really can't get any idea of who is calling.
in cellphones however, we can see the name of who's calling and thus, we can choose not to answer if we think it will be a nonsense call. ^__^;; I do that. LOL

LOL- yes I usually answer it. But I always check the caller ID first. If it's someone I don't want to talk to or if it's a number I don't recognize, then I don't pick it up.

I don't mind the phone most of the time but a ringing phone drives Hubby right up the wall. I don't know why but it is really annoying to him. The only thing that really sets me off is when someone will call and I'm in the shower, bathroom or something like that and they will get the answering machine only to hang up and call right back. They will keep doing this until you answer. I have been known to blow a gasket over this type of thing.
HAVE A GOOD DAY!!

I have no great urge to answer a ringing phone, and nine times out of ten let the answering machine get it. I guess I've gotten sick of companies after money, or wanting you to change an existing phone company, etc. etc. At least they don't leave messages!

i don't usually answer phonecalls. there are very few numbers that i answer right away. most of them, no matter i know the number or not, i leave it until my voicemail answers. when i check my voicemail, if it's important, i'll return the call. i don't want to waste time on phonecalls. that's it.

I know alot of times i might be busy on the net or eating or something. When my phone rings, I look at the caller id to see who it is and depending on who it is i will answer it. I have some friends that don't want anything and we end up saying a couple words then sitting in silence for a few minutes here and there. It just depends on my mood and who it is whether or not I answer the phone. Sometimes I just don't feel like talking to people.

Because of the way things are right now, I've gotten REALLY good at avoiding the phone. His parents are avoiding banks and collection agencies, he's avoiding a loan office and his son gets calls from friends literally every 10-15 minutes from 7 in the morning until sometimes midnight and later. The most I do is glance at the caller ID just to make sure it isn't for me.

I don't always answer the phone. Now that we have caller ID, I check that first and if I recognise the number I pick up, if I don't then I let it ring and let the answer machine take the call. I got sick of all the telemarketing phones calls I use to get so decided to invest in caller ID. My life has changed for the better LOL
If I am sick or tired I have let the answer machine pick up the call, sometimes I just can't be bothered talking to anyone!

We have caller ID so I use to check the number and specially for avoiding the sales persons call for the same thing everyday, I sometime avoid the unknown number and let my answering machin work for it. But sometime I still lift the phone for unknown number too and talk but if find its for the same irritating thing, i tell them I am not interested so not to call me again.
