need info on etched glass decanter

I have an etched glass, tapered decanter with metal(silver, silverplate?) top and handle. It is 11 inches tall and 5 inches wide at base. Tapers up to top. I think it is a claret jug, not sure. No silver stamps. On inside lid is stamped "JG & sons." And a number "18" nearby. The bottom of base has star cut pattern. I cannot seem to find out any info on the maker. The etching is a kind of scroll design. It was given to me three years ago by a friend who was clearing out her mother's things from garage. An appraisal site, Tias, told me it was 100 yrs old at least but could not tell me about JG & sons mark. I would deeply appreciate any info anyone has. Thankyou so much....Eileen
