Neotame Warning: This is another harmful artificial sweetener like Aspartame

Do you carefully read labels to make sure the food you buy isn't laced with harmful additives, especially those pesky artificial sweeteners? If so, you have noticed that once the public becomes aware of one harmful substance, they change the name a little. Here is one that fooled me not long ago. I bought a bottled iced tea and the first sip tasted like aspartame. Ack, horrible! I reread the label and sure enough, at the very bottom there was an ingredient called "neotame" which I'd never heard of, but I looked it up online and learned that it is pretty much just Aspartame with a new name. Needless to say, I poured the rest of that beverage down the drain. Have you experienced Neotame? What do you think?

I haven't run in to that one yet but thanks for the heads up. I can't tolerate Aspartame either, it tastes awful and makes me sick to my stomach. It doesn't surprise me that someone has changed the name, sneaky people. Marketers are always trying to find ways around a bad situation. I just wish they'd take Aspartame off the market all together. It's terrible stuff.

I agree. I never get a headache--the last one was 10 or 15 years ago, but one sip of that Neotame and I feel one trying to come on in seconds. People I know swear the stuff triggers migraines.

That doesn't surprise me a bit. It sure triggers waves of nausea for me. I'm still wondering how it can be so popular. I know so many people who can't use it all and I don't think we are a small minority of users.

I always check my labels to make sure what I'm buying isn't laced with additives, and especially artificial sweeteners as they are so bad for us. However, I haven't heard of Neotame here in Australia yet, but I will certainly watch out for it drannhh. Thanks for the warning, it's very much appreciated.

Good for you! I can't believe that one got past me, but it won't happen again. It is starting to bug me the way companies put the term "all natural" on foods that have highly processed additives such as high fructose corn syrup. If they weren't required, in addition, to list the actual ingredients on the labels, it wouldn't be safe to buy any bottled drinks at all.

I got ill after drinking a famous brand of bottled green tea, and I do not know if it had Neotame or Aspartame in it. It supposedly had honey, and ginseng. You do not catch me buying bottled Ice tea of any kind anymore.I try to stick with water, if I have to buy a drink. I like sucralose better than most other artificial sweeteners, but I am skeptical of it as well.

Yes, although I try to avoid all artificial sweeteners it is sometimes hard to detect sucralose in things. I read Dr. Mercola's page on Sucralose once in a while. You might enjoy it: http://www.karlloren.com/Diabetes/p40e.htm
