My Wal-mart has now become like the rest

I used to brag because the store I work at had always been unlike the many horror stories I have heard time and time again. Well, my Wal-mart has now joined the ranks of stores who treat their employees poorly and now I'm directly affected by it. I have a medical problem that has been slowing me down the last couple of weeks. You know they took me into the office and suggested I take a leave of absence before my medical condition caused me to lose my job due to a decrease in my job performance? Yeah. They did that. They gave me a verbal warning. 4 years of my life has gone into that company without so much as a warning and I'm taken into the office over the last two weeks while I've been affected by this condition. I am now on leave. Another thing is that I was told I was going to be put into a department I used to run. Well, I was placed on midnights and didn't want to be, but they said they weren't going to put me in the department I was supposed to go to and the only full-time positions open were midnight positions. Well, I just found out they are putting 3 people in the department I was supposed to go to. Also, a young lady is on leave due to a back injury and they fired her because her leave was beyond 12 weeks. This is despite the fact her doctor provided documentation stating she could not yet go back to work. I could go on, but things in my store have been horrible. Morale is terrible. I've heard management say that, but the problem is that their bosses are coming down on them and it is causing them to come down on us. I've felt picked on from the time I went to midnights because they know I don't want to be there, but I have still done a good job for them. I work very hard and now I feel it is for nothing. I was trying my best the last couple of weeks despite my medical issue, but I guess the last two weeks have been more important to them than the entire time I've been there and busted my hind end.

It is amazing how the jerks extend company wide. It shows that it is the people at the top of the stairs who are the causes of it. I've seen really good people go bad when they've entered Wal-mart management and it is because of the pressure that is placed upon them. I think that is why the whole jerk thing is company-wide.

Aww Gingi sweets that must be so hard for you! I am sorry that you have been treated so shabbily by your employers - it is awful that they can treat their workers in such a horrible way! i do hope that your medical issues are resolved now or at the very least improving! Keep your spirits up honey - don't let them get you down! xxx

Thanks mummymo :) Things are actually looking up. I've been freelance writing for around seven years now and finally got my BIG job. I have to copywrite 100 hours worth of text and they are paying me $50 an hour. The crazy thing is that they asked me if $50 an hour was okay! Yeah! LOL

i know exactly what you mean about wal-mart. i used to work for them too. i started as a cashier back in july of 2005 and then we got hit by Hurricane Katrina, i transferred to a night time position so that i could make more money to help out my husband. daycare was killing each paycheck i brought in and every time my daughter got sick i had to get her because my husband's job made more money. well after hurricane katrina i started working full time and i fought for 5 months to get my full time benefits. the day i walked in to hand in my badge and uniform they had my papers ready and i told them to stuff it because i had already found another job that i was to start that night. i will never work for wal-mart again. they have changed their policies again and all of my friend that still work for them that have kids all have warnings because of absenses due to their children getting sick. i would find another job very quickly if i were you. 4 years is nothing when they start taking away your rights to have a life beyond wal-mart. lots of love, witmuch

Thanks so much for sharing your story. Actually, I had been freelancing on the side for about seven years and started a small business on the side about 4 years ago. I could only take on small projects because I had to work, but this medical leave thing turned out to be a blessing. I have made four months of Wal-mart income in 1 month of writing full-time. I'm not going back. I've already got my tax ID, I'm in the process of opening my business account, and my husband and I purchased everything I need to run my business. www.grgfreelance.com My husband and I are the ones running the business and we're loving it :) We're even getting health insurance and it is actually affordable. My husband said, "I wish we would've done this a long time ago." It is more money and I get to work in my home office. Granted I have to work about 12 hours a day, but I love it :)

ya know I love to shop at walmart but I have heard so many sad storys about the way they treat there employees it must be very hard to work for people like that. imthinking the employee who was fired for being on leave with a drs xcuse has a great court case,my boss tried that and didnt get far when my lawyer steped in. I hope you get back to feeling better and get back into the dept you want to be in. also please know that I appreciate you being there even if your bosses dont.

Wow. Thanks for that response :) I appreciate that. I do understand that I have to take care of my health first, but I was simply trying to be careful on my job because there is something wrong in my abdominal area that my doc has no idea what it is yet. It affects my bladder and a lump in my abdomen that I believe is pressing against my bladder. I have only had one test done so far, so there are more to come this coming week. I appreciate the well wishes and yes, I agree that the fired employee has a case, too. She is friends with my mom and my mom told her the same. Thanks so much :)
