How much does the average cat weigh?

I'm wondering how much your cat weighs? If you have more than one cat, how much do they both weigh? Are they close in size?
I have 3 cats. One is really fat, but he is the youngest (he just turned 3). I stood with him on the scale last night out of curiousity, and he weighs 16 and a half pounds.
Jasmine is also 3, and she is plump but not as big as him. I'm not sure what she weighs.
Lucy, will be 4 in October and she is a skinny minny girl. I bet she probably weighs close to 7 pounds maybe.
I'm going to get my girls on the scale this week and see what they weigh.
What do your cats all weigh for their ages?

My favorite cat weighed 8lbs when he was an adult. He looked like a big kitten for his whole life.

I've got both inside-only & outside-only cats (we live on about 10 acres of land). They all range in size, with the outside cats being a bit lighter in weight. Most of my cats range from a petite almost 7 lbs. 1 & 1/2 year all gray female to a hefty almost 20 lbs. 2 year male long-hair tabby (which is WAY over-weight).
My vet told me that a good rule of thumb for cat weight is: standing above your cat, look down at the cat's whole body. If the sides of the cat look kinda like ( ) where the stomach area protrudes well beyond, then they're a bit over-weight (depending on how large the ( ) space is). If you can feel your cat's ribs really well, then the cat is a bit under-weight.
Also, different cat breeds have different weights. For example: Bombay's weight between 7 - 9 lbs. but Norwegian Forest cats are usually between 9 - 23 lbs. And female cats tend to weight less than the male cats.
A good reference book is: Simon & Schuster's Guide to Cats; a Fireside book published by Simon & Schuster. ISBN # 0-671-49167-9 It doesn't have specific cat weights, but it does have very good descriptions of tons of cat breeds and a great first part of the book that covers things like: history of the cat, birthing & raising of kittens, keeping the cat at the right weight with list of foods for cats, signs of when a cat's sick, and TONS more really good info.

Thanks for the advice and hints! When I look over my cats in the way you suggested, only one of my cats has a little bit of belly bulge-- and that's our middle cat jasmine. She probably only weighs between 8 and 10 pounds though. She could just be extra furry and it may not be her belly that I'm seeing, since it was just a slight bulge.
I dont think my cats are a specific breed, more like mutts so I'm not sure how to compare them.
I do want to see if my library has that book, it sounds very interesting!

If you're going to the library to look at the Simon & Shuster book, you might also want to look at past issues of "Cat Fancy" magazine. They usually have very good articles -- each month they have one specific breed for their "center-fold". The advantage is they have several pictures of the breed (besides a good breed description), that way you can tell better, if your cat mostly fits the specific breed. Other books don't always have more than one or two pictures. Hope you enjoy your trip to the library!

Well I'm not sure there is any true answer to this because cats can vary so much - just like people. You can get some (like my smallest cat Lily), who are tiny, petite and small-boned, and will never put on weight, no matter how much she eats, and others like another of my cats (Sasha), who is a large, heavy-boned, athletic cat - not an ounce of fat but heavy because of bone and muscle! Averagely, I think they weigh anywhere between 4kg and 8kg - sorry - I'm not so good at lbs, but I think 4kg is about 10lbs.

Hi. Well when he was younger, Sasha used to hunt a lot, but now he's older, his sole exercise is going out in the morning, walking around the garden to check on his territory, and then home to sleep! He does the same little walk in the evening - that is about all! He used to be quite playful, chasing balls and toys, but, as I said, he is old now, and age catches up with us all eventually!

Well, I would say the average cat weight is around 10 or 11 pounds. I have one cat that weighs 10 pouns and another that weighs 22 pounds. It really depends on the size of the cat's build, too.

They say... cats weigh between 8-10 lbs. All I know is my adverage is closer to 12-14. I have some big boys that are 16 lbs, I have some little gals who weigh about 7-8.
One of my "little" cats is actually 10ish lbs, his brother tips the scales around 13 - & he's one of our more adverage cats. My little ones are girls, but I have some big gals too.

I have seven cats and the most one of them weighs is 11 lbs. My husband and I visited his aunt last weekend and she has a cat that weighs 30lbs. I have never seen such a fat cat in my life. She has it on a diet because the vet told her it will probably die in a year if it does not loose weight. This is the biggest cat I have ever seen.

Wow, a 30 pound cat! That would be like double my biggest cat's size! I can't even imagine! Does that cat like to curl up with your aunt and sleep? I know how uncomfy it is when our 16 pound cat curls up with me with his lard! LOL i can't imagine having a 30 pounder lay on my chest.
I hope he does lose some weight for your aunt.

I think my middle cat Jasmine must be more average then my oldest and youngest. It's funny that she isn't more plump then what she is though because she cries when the food dish isn't filled to the brim. She doesnt eat as much as our younger cat though-- he is a pig!

I think between 10-12 pounds but I could be wrong.
For some reason we keep ending up with really big cats. My one I had forever was around 20lbs. We got him down some but he was just an all around big cat.
I have no idea what our cat now weighs since she stays under the couch for the most part. I wwant to say she was/is around 12 lbs.

I think my Smeegle will probably push 20 pounds by winter time. He isn't really fat though, just very long and solid. His legs and arms and everything are like rocks. He doesn't need to go to the vet again for quite a while, but I may ask and make sure he isn't eating too much.
