I just did a discussion about sports in general and which you thought were the most boring sports to watch on TV...
But as much as I never watch much sports, nor am a great fan of any, I do confess watching the Olympics is something else...then you have my attention. With me however, I prefer the Winter Olympics over the Summer games. I love to watch the skiing events, hockey (still remember the 1980 games when USA won the hockey) and I absolutely LOVE figure/ice skating events...maybe since I sure wish I could do a triple axil or sow cow myself--LOL
So do you like The Olympics in general? Which do you prefer? Winter or Summer games? And which events do you watch the most from them?

I admit I'm an Olympic Games junkie.
I love the gymnastics, all gymnastics. Those kids amaze me and it's always exciting to see if they're going to come up with something new.
I also like to watch a lot of the track and field competitions.
Swimming too always looking to see who's gonna break another world record. I find myself yelling at the tv screen all the time.
Figure skating is one of my all time favorites singles and couples.
sometimes I'll watch the skiing if there's a tight competition going.
There's several others that I keep track of too but don't necessarity watch. I like the evening "daily wrap up" shows so I can keep up with what's going on and get the highlights and metal count.

You're not getting old.. hey we're almost the same age! LOL! I remember that Torvell and Dean routine too, just awesome and Bolero is one of my all time favorite songs anyway. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen.

It's amazing how some of those gymnists will continue to compete even when they have really severe injuries. Nah, not much for track and field though. Figure skating has come a long way...I still remember the 1980 with Torvell and Dean...that was some pair...remember?? They did their pairs final to Ravel's Bolero--gee, I'm getting old if I can remember that--LOL

Gymnastics is by far, definitely the best sport in the world to watch! It is impossible to be boring. The viewers often have no idea who disciplined and in top shape these athletes are. It's amazing. If you try to do a tenth of the conditioning they do, I'd be wowed! ;o)
It's a beautiful sport too, though sometimes I wish televsion televised and showed it more often. It seems barely EVER they show gymnastics on TV.

Well, my sister competatively swam for years, so I probably find the swimming less boring then some people, but I love to watch the horses too. The "high profile" games of track & field don't do much for me tho.
with the winter games, back in 1972 I guess I got into the cross country skiing/shotting event that was pretty cool - used something like that in a story I liked it so much.

I'm not much into track and field either--I love swimming only cause I used to swim a lot as a kid, and I was taught how to swim at the YWCA by a former Olympic swimmer.

I don't know what Dodson's quilifications were as a swim coach, he was my sister's all those many years ago. I do know he taught school as well - I had him in a class!
He was pacing in front of the class room & kept staring at me until he turned & asked "Do you have a sister that swims?"
"Ah... yeah," I said. Scared the fool out of me!

Hello pyewacket,Thanks for your post. For me Golf is the most boring sports to watch on TV.I like the olympics in general
as its a stage where we get the oppertunity to see the world's bestperformers fighting for their country to win the gold medal. My favourites are atheletics 100m and 4x100m relay, 100m freestyle swimming, Hockey,Ice skating, gymnastics.I am a
great football fan and lon tennis fan as well but I find
World cup or Wimbledon etc much better to enjoy this two games rather than in olympics.

I don't pay attention to sports in general, but do love the olympics...there you have competitors from around the world each representing their country

Hi Pyewacket. Well I'm not really an Olympic fan apart from the tennis, which is my favourite sport, and a great hobby/passion of mine. I always try to watch the tennis matches in the Summer Olympics, though have to admit this is more through a love of the sport, not because I love the Olymics especially if that makes sense. I go to Wimbledon and the French Open in paris every year, and also to several oyther live tournamernts, and follow the sport the rest of the year through TV and the Internet, so I would follow those matches whether they were in the Games or not. Other than that, I do quite enjoy watching the Figure Skating in the Winter Olympics. Also, I will probably end up volunteering at the 2012 London Olympics just because they are local, and it would be a once-in-a lifetime experience, - but there is no other particular sport I follow, thoughmy partner is obsessed by football (soccer to you), to know a fair bit about it just because I have been indoctrinated over the years - LOL!

I really love to watch gymnastics and skating. It doesn't have to be olympic though. I will watch the college kids gymnastic meets on tv.
Since my niece is a hockey player, I will pause at hockey games if I have nothing on.
I also really got into the soccer last year because a friend at work did a soccer pool and I won it!

I love watching the Olympics. I prefer the summer games, although I enjoy the winter ones as well. I like the track and field events, swimming & diving, basketball, baseball & softball... actually I enjoy just about all of them. In the winter, I like skiing events (both Nordic & Alpine), speed skating, and curling (!).

I love the summer and winter olympics. I love the gymnasitcs a lot men and women the same. I love to see the muscles of the men. LOL I love to watch the weight lifting, and wonder how do they do that? It really takes a lot of hard work and dedication to become an olympican. I admire an olymican more than I do an over paid football player or another over paid athletic from the USA.

A lot of the track and field events don't really do much for me. Same with swimming, but then again, I had always been more a team based sports person like football (soccer) or cricket and such. And hence the Olympic is not something that I really look forward too.

Is fencing still included in the games? If so, that is my favorite. Not that they will ever show any segments from that event--something about the only people who don't find fencing boring are fencers and those who have dated them.

I mostly like to watch the gymnastic events. I will sometimes watch the ice skating and swimming and diving. I am not real big on sports. I don't really have a preference over winter or summer olympics. Honestly, I can't remember what one gymnastics is in.lol

I watch the Summer and Winter Olympics.
Fav summer: basketball, gymnastics, softball, baseball...alas softball and baseball are soon to be eliminated from the Summer Olympics, in favor of more exciting sports such as....Badminton???!!!
Fav winter: Ice Skating (pairs and singles), Ice Dancing, Downhill Skiing.
PEACE

I watch only those events which i like and can hope something from my countrymen, Indians.
I'll watch the long jump and relay race, because those two are the events where i can hope to see India making it to the finals. We Indians are no good at sports, except for cricket which is not included in the olympics.
I don't like hockey though it is our national game, India is quite at it, but don't excel as to win. So, not much of olympics for me.

I like to watch the Olympics, both winter and summer. My favorite events in summer are gymnastics, swimming, and diving and will be archery for these next games as that is an activity that I am learning this year. In winter I like ice skating, speed skating, and some of the skiing events. The only thing I don't like about the Olympics is that the media knows we love gynmastics and figure skating so they cut everything all up and put it in the order they want so they've got us watching from 6pm til midnight every nite and waiting til the very end of the show to see our favorite athletes so we're stuck there all night. That annoys me.
