I have a strange problem with installing Windows XP. The XP installation goes on for some time and when it tries to save the settings, the PC shuts down with around 9 minutes remaining in the installation. When I reboot the PC, the setup begins from scratch. Any idea, what could be the problem? Cheers! Ram

Does this happen in the GUI mode or before reaching the GUI mode??? Also, let me know if this is the first time you are trying to install Windows XP or any other OS was installed earlier on that machine...

Hi Keeshan, This is not the first time I am trying to install XP on this machine. I had already installed XP on the machine and it was working for a few days, but then I experienced some problems with my system, so I decided to reinstall XP and then this problem arises. Regarding the GUI mode, if you mean the setup screen of XP, yes that does come up. Regards, Ram

I did that and it did not help. I then had to remove all the partitions and then only it allowed me to install XP!! Donno whether there are any issues with partition management. Cheers! Ram

Probably your installation cd is corrupted or damaged. That is the data cann't be read at that time from the CD. Or another problem may be your RAM.Due to memory it can happen also.So your RAM may be bad.So if that happen then you need to change your memory.

No, I don't think so that was the problem. When I reformatted all my drives and re-partitioned them, I was able to install XP successfully!! Cheers! Ram

Make sure to reformat the hard drive before you reinstall Windows. If you still have problems after that, then you should go to the website of your hard drive manufacturer, (Seagate, Western Digital, Maxtor, etc) and download diagnostic tools that run from a boot CD. If your hard drive checks out fin then the problem is most likely your CD/DVD drive or Windows CD. If you have a spare CD or DVD drive put that in your machine and try installing Windows using that drive. If the same problem continues then your CD may be damaged. All it takes is a scratch or two in the wrong place to cause problems. My bet is that your CD/DVD drive is the problem

Dar ram_cv, It is probably some problems with your pc's mother board. If you know about hardware assembling, apart every accessories from the the motherboard and then re-assemble to motherboard. some times it works. If it doesnt work, You should contact with a technician or support centre.

Hmm... I am not so sure. One suspicion though is the Intel Graphics controller on my mother board. Donno whether someone else had problems with that... Cheers! Ram
