I tried to post a news article this morning and was unable to because until you have 500 posts it is disabled to eliminate spam.
I do think this is a very valuable tool for mylot to enforce, but is frustrating when you aren't a spammer and are blocked from doing what you want because someone spoiled it for everyone.
However, at the rate I'm posting, I will be able to start posting news articles soon enough and encourage some great discussion on the different news items.

I totally agree with you J, I am not a spammer either, as a matter of fact I am a writer amoung other things, who has very bad arthiritis in her hands and body. So the inability to not be able to paste is limiting my experience here a whole lot.
To top it off, more than once I have written a fairly long response, just to find when I hit submit, I get a pc quirk, or I get logged out, or my pc just simply crashes, just to lose every bludy thing I wrote. So I have wasted a whole lot of time, and are then too frustrated and upset to even bother trying to respond a second time. This actually happened again last night.
I really wish they would at least consider lowering it to 100, because like the other person said, spammers are going to spam no matter how high the points have to be to paste.
There should be alternative ways to catch and stop these spammers, but because of them, honest people, some with severe ailments like me, that the copy/paste feature could really help out, are suffering.

Ooh, that's absolutely heartbreaking. Perhaps you could email admin and ask if they could give you an exception. I can't imagine being an actual writer and having a hard time "writing".
As for losing your posts, what internet browser do you use? I was using Internet Explorer for the longest time, but then I tried to visit a site and it wouldn't work. The site suggested I download Firefox Mozilla instead and see if it worked.... Well, it did!!! And I haven't turned back. The reason I suggest this for you is that sometimes when I used to lose posts on Internet Explorer I would hit the back button and the post would be gone, but Firefox seems to retain the information you just had and allows you to try and resend it. Now that is great, but is also remembers what sites you were on when your pc crashes... although it may not keep what you have typed, it returns to the site.
If you are interested, I have a link to Firefox on my blog, or I'm sure if you searched for it, you could find it. Let me know if you have any questions.

I hate that as sometimes I dont reply as it would take me 5 h to write something that I could easily just cut and paste eg. tax rate in australia it took me 20 min to write it when it could have taken me 5 sec to cut and paste it.

Yes it is true that you won't be able to post by copy and paste in mylot till you have not reached 500 posts. This is done by mylot to ensure that no member can span or misuse the features of mylot. Anyway it is not difficult to reach 500 post in mylot. You can reach this limit with some hardword and continuity.

When I first started I was hoping to get to the 500 post mark so that I could use the cut and past feature but now that I am over the 500 post mark I do not use that function much. When I respond to a post I usually just type the answer like I am doing now. When i start a posting I might use some cut and paste to help me to put in a longer post in a quicker time if the article is (or hopefully ) interesting to a lot of myloters. I usually go through discussions of my interest to find post that interest me to reply to, and to find a post like that and use the cut and paste would be hard , it would take more time (unless I had the page open for the reply) to cut and paste than to just type out the answer.

hello ther, well you know spam have been alwas a problemn on the internet world, this 500 post think is a security mesearument to prevenmt the spam, i know isa a little bit fruistratuing like the case of our friend above thgat you have make a relaly long post and sudden pc freeze and all go to trash, but well that is the way it is , in the case of spammer as you said they will not be stoped jut by putting a limit of copy paste, but it will prevent them to go that faster, also prevent that you only copy paste text to get quality post instead of inspiratet yoursefl, well we have to work a lot to get the 500 post but we hope it goes quick

I can understand your frustrations because I had the same feeling when I was not able to do copy and paste :P
However, now I really appreciate the control. In fact, I wished the control is released only after 1000 posts as I find that many just copy and paste long articles as discussions once they are eligible for it.
In my opinion, you can still post news articles for discusison if you provide a brief summary of it, citing the URL. There is no need to copy & paste the whole chunk of news.
Hope the copy & paste function did not stop you from progressing :)

I have to admit that it did discourage me from posting the article, but that was before I knew about the necessary 500 posts to copy/paste, so I think that put me off, more than the actually typing.
I do plan on using news articles until I reach 500, but will just have to do as you suggest.
Thanks for your post.

I understand your frustration. And the spammers sure seem to hit their 500 faster than the rest of us. It took me forever to get to 500, or so it seemed. Of course now that I am capable of using the paste function, I realize that I really don't use it that often at all. And so it goes.

Thanks for responding so quickly. And I bet you are right.... spammers can spam and they are fast and good at it. I think I would use the copy and past function often though. I guess it depends on what type of discussions you participate in.... But guess what, come my 500th post, I may be in the same shoes as you.
