What is a squidoo lense? Why is it beneficial to have one?

I have heard a lot of people talk about squidoo and that you can make money from it. Is this true? If so, how do you make money from it?

i actually hv 2 squiddo lenses for almost like 3months now and i still didnt got any money from it... the money u can earn there is by selling products in amazon or ebay through ur lenses , i dont hv time to promote does lenses and im sure thats why im not getting any cent from them!! before i got there i actually read a lot about it and i remember it was not only a good making money opportunity but its good to drive traffic to ur blog/site again i didnt see any results from there.... so lets say my experience isnt good there... but im sure there can be people here with better experiences!
