HELP: Is there such a thing as allergic to anti-allergy drugs?

While working in the graveyard shift a few years back, I had an 'outbreak' of rashes all over my face. It started as a small patch that was so itchy I went to the clinic to ask for oral medication. I was given anti-histamine (I forgot the brand name) but less than hour after I've taken it, my face got all red and even my chest, back and stomach got all itchy I was advised to take a rest and wait for the medication to take effect. I ended up being taken to the emergency and they injected me with something that was supposed to solve the problem. I fell to a deep sleep and when I woke up around 6 hours later, the rashes were all gone. They said it was 'just' an allergic reaction to the elements (smoke and stress) in the workplace. I have mitral valve prolapse (MVP) and I'm researching whether such allergic reaction could be attributable to my MVP or if it's the other way around...or if it is simply an allergy to a certain brand of anti-allergy drug. Anyone here who could care to enlighten me?

My mom is allergic to benadryl She recently was given some at a hospital and it made her whole body turn red everything she looked like a lobster. They tried to correct it by giving her something else just made it worse. So they took her off everything told her not to take anything. She has slowly turning back to normal except for a few spots here and there. I am sorry I cannot enlighten you on the subject matter.

I am actually thankful that you've taken time to comment on this, mtdewgurl74. Please don't be sorry if you haven't helped me; you actually gave me hope! At least, I know that somehow I wasn't alone and that somebody has read this topic. Now I'm more hopeful that eventually, somebody will get to enlighten not just me but you, too, on the subject. Happy posting and I hope you'd still be here in myLot when I get to reach 3000 posts. I still have a looong way to go. :)

I think u can be allergic to any thing ,my son has allergies from about 1 month old, he is even allergic to his own hair, going to the Barber was a trial we had to keep his hair very wet so it would not fly around & get in his nose,we took him to Oklahoma city for allergy test they run 300 different test & out of that he is allergic to 285 different things including his hair, when he got older he cut it all off.
