When did you give up your stuffed toys?

When I was a little girl, I loved stuffed bears, more so than dolls. In fact, I have only ever had one stuffed doll that I truly loved. I can't remember her name, maybe it was Amanda. For all intents and purposes, she was still a stuffed toy and not the plastic kind. I would sit and braid her hair for hours and dress her up. She was amazing!
Over my entire childhood, I collected several hundred stuffed bears, rabbits, dolls and other assorted toys. And, surprisingly, I never got rid of them. I know that you are supposed to get rid of that childish stuff when you grow up, but I could never bear to do so. The toys are sitting in a special spot in my closet.
Sometimes I'll take out a stuffed toy from my own childhood and share some of the fond memories with my daughter and she does seem to enjoy that. Perhaps one day she will understand their importance to me.
I am not sure if I should give them to her as she is very young. Maybe I should just buy her all new stuffed toys. I am not sure what to do.

I didn't use to play with stuffed toys at all, but yes, i did like all this GI Joes and Turtles.. I still have them but don't play with them anymore.. I have placed them on my study table, and at times my hands approach them to play with them, and as soon as I pick one of them, it reminds of my younger days... I have never parted with any of my toys with which I used tp play when I was a child...

I can remember every single one of my toys. We had so much fun together. I didn't have sisters for playtime, just brothers and they detested playing dollies! As you can imagine, I am sure. So, most times we played with the Transformers (1980's) and GI Joes as you mentioned and such. And, then I went off to my room and had my private tea parties. I miss those days! But, having a little kid I can well recreate those times again.

I really liked stuffed toys and dolls specially, and used to play house for dolls for endless hours. Sadly not a single toy I used to play is with me now as I have moved out of my home since long.

That is so sad! I would miss all my "babies" if they were gone. I have accidentally lost a few over the years while moving to a new home and it was always sad, because they hold so many precious memories and make my childhood come alive for me all over again!

I still have a few of my stuffed animals that I had as a child. Most have been passed down to my kids, except for one very special bear that my grandmother made for me when I was 5. It will get passed down eventually, but not until they are old enough to understand how special it is to mommy. My mom still has some of the animals, and others have either been thrown away (Played to peices) or given away to cousins or other family members.

I was never really attached to all the stuffed animals I had. My favorite was a squirrel that I bought for myself. I gave them all up but the squirrel (which I still have packed away) when I went off to college. My husband -boyfriend at the time- gave me a bunny in an easter basket and I don't think I will ever be able to part with that one either.

I still have a couple dozen stuffed animals from when I was a kid and teenager. They're my son's now. It took me awhile to let him have them. I was so attached. Then I realized that he would give them all the love and cuddles they deserved. Between his and mine, I could fill a couple of toy boxes with them all.

I didn't play that much with stuffed toys I had more Barbie dolls and lego. Sometimes I am thinking about my childhood, how I use to play with my friend.
I have been started recieveing stuufed toys around age 16 from all the friends, who didn't know what to buy me to my birthday or so.I still have them at my mum's home and i am also thinking keep them for my child one day.

Being the oldest and the only girl, I had my Barbie dolls and her friends. My younger brothers had the GI Joe Dolls and remember those bags of little army men you could buy, that had several hundred in a bag? My brothers would be playing with them and I with my dolls and we would play war lol. I'm not almost 51 years old and still have my Barbie dolls with all her original accessories from the early 60's tucked away in a trunk. Im sure they worth money, but I won't ever part with them. I also collect stuffed bears and display them around my home to this day. As far as buying your daughter new stuffed toys, I'd say, yes. That way she can start her own "memories" of her child hood. Just my opinion.

I gave up all my stuffed toys when I had my first daughter . I gave them all to her to play with and we had one that my niece would sleep with everytime she came over as it was the same as her stuffed animal she had at home and if she forgot it , then it would calm her down as it was the same one she had at home .
If you are worried about what might happen to your stuffed animals then I wouldn't give them to your daughter yet as they will most likely get ruined and then you will both be hurt as they still have meaning to you and your daughter will want to play with them and she will probably ruin them by accident .
I didn't have a lot of special meaning to the one's I had as I did find them cute at the time , I just didn't know what to really do with them , so I didn't have a problem giving them to my daughter but if they had meaning to me then I wouldn't have been able to do that .

I still have some of my stuffed animals. A lot of them are at my parents' house in storage, and we got rid of some. My cousin's house burned down when he had a 2 year old and his wife was pregnant. I was 12 or 13 at the time, so my mom asked us to all give up some of our own stuffed animals and books and things, so they could still have some toys. I have kept most of the other toys, though.
My son sleeps with one of my old toys. It's a Teddy Bear that has the wind up music box. He loves it. When he was still in the crib, I would set it outside of the crib and wind it up so he could hear the music sometimes. Now that he is in his toddler bed, he sleeps with it in his bed.
The other stuffed animals my son plays with, are all toys we've bought for him. He sleeps with two Easter bunnies, too. We bought him one and my mom bought him the other. He calls them Funny Bunny and Funny Bunny 1. :) I've considered giving him some of my other stuffed animals, but I just don't think he's old enough yet.

I never had a favorite stuffed animal or a favorite toy when I was growing up. I think we had a few dolls but that was it and I was too much of a tom-boy to play with dolls. I played outside in the woods and built tree forts. I have alot of stuffed bears now that I just adore. I have a stuffed puppy that I call farty nuggin..LOL..I have a stuffed bear I got from my husband and I named him Balmy. I have another special one that sits on my desk here by the computer, but I haven't named him yet. I often give away my stuffed bears and other stuffed animals to anyone that may need them more than I do..I have given them to children and to adults that I have worked with. I love to make people happy.
I actually wish I did have a favorite from childhood but I don't. I do have all I could ever want now and that is nice.
I do think some things that are from when we were children are okay to get rid of, but stuffed animals or dolls are different somehow. They are like a friend and you just can't get rid of a good friend, or good memories...

Actually, dont laugh!I still have all mine except for a doll that when she peed she would get a diaper rash on her bottom.I still dont know where that went.Anyway,my barbies are still in the box put in a safe place. They are too old for my daughter to play with at this young age.She has dozens anyway. But my dolls and teddybears,i gave them to her and she takes very goo care of them. She has to tell everyone when she has one with her "mommy gave me this,it was hers when she was little like me!"To test her i bought a CHEAP porceline doll(breaks easily the whole point of it) to see if she would take care of it before giving her the dolls. She took very good care of it,no broken legs or arms.So then she was granted the right to the rubber dolls!Maybe you should give her just one,the one that might mean the least to you of them all,i know its hard, they all mean alot.Explain to her it was yours when you were little and to take very good care of it and it will love her back alot too.

I never really kept any of my toys. We would donate them to a locat thrift store. I do have the first teddy bear that I got. I have it on my dresser with my husbands teddy bear. My kids each have the fisrt stuffed animal that they got sitting in their room. They are like me do not like alot of clutter around.

That is really nice that you still have the stuffed animals from your childhood- How nice to be able to share those memories and those toys with your own child.
I got rid of all mine was I moved out for college. I could not see any reason to still have them- they only took up space.
Of course I kept all the Raggedy Anne’s and Andy’s that my gram & gramps made me. Plus the monkey dolls, and the quilt rack and the quilts. So my daughter who is 10- is not the proud owner of all of them but the quilt rack. She loves the dolls and monkeys- she is keeping them to give to her kids-

I got rid of mine when I moved out of my parents house, I didn't want to take a bunch of girly toys with me into my new apartment, I was suppose to be a grown-up now right?? I wish I had kept them though, just because it would be cool to share then with my kids now, but at 18 I didn't think I would have kids so soon, I had my daughter when I was 19. I know she would love to play with my old dolls though, so I regret getting rid of them.

I kept most of my stuffed toys from childhood until a broken pipe and flooded closet forced me to get rid of almost all of them.
My hubby likes to buy me stuffed toys sometimes. I've got a 6 ft stuffed tiger in the bedroom and a black gorilla holding a red heart shaped pillow that says "I love you" on it. I love that gorilla and it sits on the couch with me, most of the time as a comfy pillow to prop behind my back.
I think it's great to keep your fond memories alive and use your old toys as a trigger for them. I think it's very healthy. Being able to pass them on to your own kids and tell them the stories behind them is a bonus.

Hello there. I love all my stuffed toys too. I have lots of Pooh Bears, teddy bears and others. I would never bear to throw them away. I keep them in good and clean condition. I have given a few away to my baby cousin and friends. Even though I love all my stuffed toys, it's always a blessing to give. =D

well i loved my stuffed animals,i kept a few of them which had some good memories but i gave the rest of them to children that didnt have any.my babies are young but they do have certain stuffed animals that they do sleep with.my one baby has to sleep with her puppy, and my one son sleeps with his cat,and my other son has to have his puppy.or they wont sleep.i guess its a confort to them since they were really small babies, they had them since they were a few months old.but i do have one stuffed animal that my husband bought me and its a cat,and to this day i lay it next to me when hes not home and working late,i guess it just makes me feel like hes next to me at all times lol.so once in a while if my one son cant sleep i will give him mine until he falls asleep and it works.so maybe just give one of your toys to them just to comfort them if you have too, then she will give it back to you,my son always gives it back to me cause he knows daddy bought it for me,and he always says mommys kitty cat.
