how can you convince your partner to go to the hospital & check his/her disease?

my husband has bone cancer. and the last time we checked around year 2001/ 2002 and we never go to the hospital again. because he seems hopeless to get the cure. I know he hates chemo, ct scan and other things like that. but because his pain killer not works anymore. I asked him to go so he will get higher dose or perhaps another pain killer. and to know where the cancer at right now. I know he is scare but I really want him to check. what do you think?. I mean what do you say to convince your partner to go to hospital & check?
