You should start a new fad and start calling it pop. Try it out for a day and see what kind of responses you get. That would be interesting.

In Wisconsin, it's soda. You might like this. Here in Wisconsin, we call drinking fountains "bubblers"

I'm from Iowa, and we call it pop. I had an experience similar to yours when we moved to southern Tennessee. People didn't call it either pop or soda there. When I asked a native Tennesseean what she called it, she had to think a minute before she said, "Coke, I guess." Of course, everyone there drinks Coke.

In all of Australia we mostly call it soft drink or perhaps by the brand name, e.g. Coke, Pepsi, Solo and yes if someone is visiting from overseas and calls it anything like Pop or Soda we would probably look at them funny too. LOL

Really! It's amazing that everybody can agree on calling it by brand name, like coke or pepsi. I heard that coca cola is the 2nd most recognized word in the world. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

It's pop in Canada (at least I think it's called that all the way across Canada). I've never heard anyone use soda in this part.

I know it's funny, I came here in nc and they call it soda, when people offer you drinks here they would ask what would you like to drink water or soda nad then I have to ask them back what kind of soda you've got? I'm getting used to the soda thing anyhow.

Ok, I live in Oklahoma and we all pretty much call it pop. I had some friends from New Jersey, and we used to always argue over whether it was pop or soda.

I moved from Oklahoma to East Texas. I said something about "pop" and then I was told that was bad language around there.

It's always been Pop for me, it just doesn't have the same ring to me to say soda, brings back a memory of the old Kim Mitchell song, I don't remember the title, but the lyric, "might as well go for a soda", I'm humming it right now.
