Do you believe that a person who has no history of mental illness all of a sudden develop psychosis, hallucinations, delusions due to sleep deprivation?
I actually witnessed it happen to a very close friend of mine. It was so surprising to me s this person has a very strong personality, and is typically very calm by nature.
On the other hand, my psychiatrist has mentioned that they have used sleep deprivation for depressed patients. Something about the lack of sleep making their brain circuitry correct itself. Assuming of course you believe their is an underlying biological reason to their mental illness.
Ive always been an insomniac, I can spend days without sleep, and then just one day completely conk out for 20+ hours just to rest. Ive tried pretty much every single sleeping pill that is available in the market to no avail. A lot of people in my family is the same as me, so I believe the recent studies that sleep disorder is inherited.
What do you do to keep your sanity when you cant seem to manage to get any sleep for days?
