How do you choose a candidate to vote for?

I've heard so many people talking about "presence" or looking or sounding "presidential" and other similar things. There was even a news story awhile back about Hillary Clinton showing a bit of cleavage. I'm not a Hillary fan, but should anyone be that concerned with what she's wearing? How about a little substance over style? How do you choose a candidate?

Hi, Jersey Girl! Things have been a little nuts around here. It's nice to be missed though... :o) I've grown rather cynical with what candidates say (especially during an election cycle). I like to see how their voting records match up with their campaign speeches. Sense of humor is good, especially if candidates can laugh at themselves, instead of taking themselves too seriously.

I'm with you . I should have said their record. They are always saying they are gonna do something then don't do. When I hear a politician say I am gonna do this or i promise to do that,I just roll my eyes

It would be nice if politicians would mean what they say and say what they mean. We need to hold them more accountable.

I look at how they deal with the issues most important to me- disability rights, LGBT rights, feminism (including pro-choice issues), and international relations. I am also, I must admit, a little into the cult of personality thing. I do want a President to sound "Presidential". I'm tired of GWB making us look stupid in the international community. We need someone better!

It's good to hear that people are looking into issues and not just political party. Frankly, I'm not real impressed with either party. I think we all fall into the personality thing to a degree, but it seems that sometimes people put too much stock in such things, and neglect issues,IMO.
