I got to thinking about this woman I used to know way back when I lived in Tennessee. She had this strange eating habit. She would only eat hamburger that was uncooked. Honestly, I didn't understand it then, and I still don't understand it. I do remember that she was very thin.:D Have you known anyone with a strange eating habit? I guess I will have to tell mine. I like to eat hot dogs straight from the pack. I have done this all my life. I know there are concerns about Listeria in recent years-but I love them this way!

I eat hot dogs right from the pack too! I don't eat raw hamburger, but I do remember my grandma and dad ate what I thought was raw hamburger on pumpernickel bread. I don't know the name of it.

Yea! Feona. I am not alone. My best friend and my kids laugh at me all the time because of my habit. I just pay them no mind, lol. I've heard that more people than you would think like raw hamburger, but I definitely wouldn't eat it since the mad cow scare.

Wow! I don't think I can top your "strange" eating habit, but I do have a few of my own. I don't do this anymore, but when I was a kid I used to like to eat chocolate milk with, get this, rye bread and mustard. Yuk! I do NOT eat this anymore, and I don't understand why I used to crave it so.
I like to eat tomatoes by themselves occasionally; some people find this objectionable, and can only eat tomatoes when they are in a sandwhich. I will also sometimes bite into a purple onion as if it were an apple. I LOVE purple onions. I also like to eat cocktail onions by themselves, though it's been awhile since I've enjoyed the pleasures of cocktail onions sans the cocktail.

That combination is certainly strange, Hart. I'm glad you gave it up, lol. I can eat tomatoes by themselves, although I have heard others say they cannot. The only way I will eat raw onions is on a burger once in a while or in a salad.

She could get worms from eating the raw meat, and if she was really skinny, maybe she did and didnt know that she should stop? Are the hot dogs pre-cooked? if not that could be dangerous too!I have seen strange eating habits in my cats, like chewing on cat litter or sucking on sweaters, but they were lacking iron in their diet. It's odd how the body will be attracted to what it's deficcient in even if it doesnt understand the workings of the craving. When i was severely anemic I chewed ice cubes like crazy.I now know that that is a symptom.I sure didnt know then!

I don't think I've any strange eating habits, though I'm sure if I took enough time to think about it I'd find something! I don't know how that woman you described ate a raw hamburger...I just wouldn't be able to bring myself to do that, cooked is the way I like em :)

I really do think that most people have at least one strange eating habit, emisle. I know that I ate very differently as a child than I have since becoming an adult. The woman who ate the raw hamburger seasoned it with salt and pepper just as though she was going to cook it, but she then placed it between two slices of bread and ate it.

There are so many concerns about eating hamburger that is not completely cooked that it is a wonder she never became ill from eating raw hamburger .
I don't believe I have any strange eating habits but my eldest daughter certainly has some . She will eat a mayo sandwich or eat a can of soup without adding the water to it . She will eat a can of the frozen concentrated juice without adding the water to make the juice . All of these I find odd .
My children all eat hotdogs right out of the package and I never knew there were and concerns about Listeria ( which I have never heard of and will have to look into now ). They have always preferred their hotdogs like this rather then cooked and I have always allowed them to do this .

I think that food handling was much safer back then, sam. You rarely heard of anyone getting sick from food they ate. It was nothing like it is now. You would think that as we became more modernized everything would be even safer, but it isn't. I found out about the listeris threat about 12 years ago, but it does not bother me when I get a craving for my cold hot dogs.

LOL--glad to meet another weirdo who eats hot dogs out of the package without cooking them...I don't do that often, but yup I do that too.
My mom had some weird habits..every once in awhile she'd take out the mayo, and eat it from the jar, same with ketchup..take a spoonful of that..the weirdest would be her taking the mustard..yes,mustard and eat that out of the jar..
As for that woman eating the uncooked hamburger...hey, maybe she was being "chic" after all there is a French dish which is raw hamburger and a raw egg..known as steak tartare--wow a nice double whammy of poison there, no? And maybe she was so thin, since often eating raw meat one can get tapeworms--yuk

That's great, pyewacket, another raw hot dog eater! I think they actually taste better that way. Now, when we were kids we had a fondness for mayo sandwiches-just mayo on bread. They were pretty good too. I have heard of steak tartare but I really wouldn't care to try it. With my luck I would end up with e. coli or botulism poisoning.(:

When I was a kid I ate catsup sandwiches, just catsup on bread. Sounds gross now! I liked hot dogs straight from the package, I still do but seldom eat a whole one, just sneak a few bites while I am making beans and weenies.
My grandchildren like to eat Doritos dipped in dill pickle juice.
When I was younger and working in a restaurant, a particular customer always ordered hamburger, practically raw. She just wanted it thrown on the grill, flipped immediately, and then put on a bun. So it was raw, but warm. That sounds even worse than eating it cold!!

If the meat is top quality then steak tatare (raw) is good.
But all the crap and sweepings goes into hamburger meat and I don't eat it cooked let alone raw. The old lady probably had a gut full of worms which is why she was thin.
How do I know? I worked in an abbatoir where we made the stuff!

LOl many things seem strange to others but not to us. ANd eating habits are often seen as strange because there are so many differences.
I actually like to eat raw beef meat( steak, stew cubes, and even ground ). I always have a bit when I'm seasoning it before I cook it and even when I cook it it tastes better if it's rare as opposed to well done - it has no flavour at all to me if it's well done. I don't eat pork or chicken raw just because there used to be more concern about pork and chicken raw than beef when I was growing up, but my tastes were still strange at that time hehe
I know this might not be the best idea in the world the way things are but so far I have had no problems from eating meat like this. I do my best to at least cook it on the outside, but it has to be raw inside or it won't taste like anything to me.
I also like to eat apple or banana with cheese, portuguese smoked sausage with cookies and chips with chocoloate LOL THere, I confessed to my strange eating habits :):)

i can't eat them without cooking, its no good to me. i do not know how and why that woman eats the hamburger uncooked, it doesn'tseem healthy at all and i don't find any other reason for it. It just a habit she grew up with. But its better to eat the non veg item cooked. But you know there are places where people do not have modern advancement and they eat uncooked food, meat etc. But I think they have their body and orhans matched with the nature and used to it, set up in that way.
