Ok, I'm showing my age but do you know what 45 rpm records are? I could actually say do you know what records are and that would probably get a lot of "no's" here wouldn't it?
They were round discs made of vinyl that we listened to music on! lol....
If you really don't know what I'm talking about just check out the old wiki and it explains them from the beginning of time!http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinyl%5Frecord
I came across a small box in my basement with about a dozen very old 45's in it. Of course they are scratched and not worth anything but the memories they bring back but there are collectors who have hundreds of them in pristine condition and I find that amazing!Do you have any old 45's hanging around?

It looks like all the old dj's are going to be coming out in the open here. I'm sure your records are worth a lot of money today.

At least once a week after school, a few of us kids would walk into town to the local record store and I myself would by a "single" or a 45. so i have quite a collection of them and yes, still have them. A few friends have also moved in the past few years and have given me their 45 collections, so I feel blessed to have a wide range of musical tastes in the collection on the whole.

I know exactly what 45 RPM records are...I grew up playing them!! Yup, I am showing my age too! I can't believe that over the years I have gotten rid of all of my 45 RPM records. I have seen a website before where it explained how to put them in the oven on top of a bowl and put the oven on warm. The record melts and then you put it in the fridge and later when you pop it off you have a neat bowl made out of a record!

Yes, I still have my 45's and I still have my albums too (33 1/3). I wish my turntable worked. I haven't played them in a long while. So I guess we are all showing are age. So good to know I am not the only one that saved these. I still have them in the carrying case I bought years ago. They bring back memories when I just look at the titles. What a great time it would be if I could play them!

I think the bigger ones are called 78's and 33's. I remember the old mickey mouse from my childhood also.

I now what 45 records are and I'm only 27.
HMV still sells 7" and 12" singles - not just dance records but some indie/alt (and other) bands still release their singles and albums on vinyl. The NME recently gave a away a free 7" by the white stripes and they're about to do the same for Babyshambles

I had plenty, ctry, until my last move. I wanted to start over fresh, so I got rid of a lot of things that I now regret. I even got rid of my stereo with the turntable. I bent over laughing at the way you started your discussion. It brought to mind just how fast things are changing.(:

I've done that too worldwise...get rid of things then long after regret, but as the saying sometimes go...one has to get rid of the old to prepare for or invite the new in one's life

I think that's how a lot of us got rid of a lot of things we now wish we didn't. Downsizing! We move and want to take less with us! Yes, I had to start my discussion that way for the "younger" generation...lol...

And someday when I am gone and the kids find the records they'll wonder.....who the heck is that! I also have alot of Gene Pitney......man I love his stuff. Whenever I used to break up with someone in High School I would put on Gene and bawl my eyes out. Helped me get over it faster! LOL

Lol, Ode to the good old days's. I remember those days! The 45's, ahhh yes. I remember it like it was last week. We saved up money to buy the newest record from our favorite groups. Back then music was a background to everything in our lives. I don't have any old 45's anymore. If I had known what the day would bring, I would of kept some for memories sake.

I have a couple of huge boxes of them tucked away in my ex mother in laws storage barn. I forget they are there but my girls have seen them when they go there to visit. Also have some old 78's from my dads collection. Some are in mint condition but some of the ones that I played alot i'm sure are not.

I know what they are. My dad used to have a ton of them. My hubby found some old ones and we put them on and listened to them one night. He still has a record player on an old tape deck thing he has.

I'm going to show my age a little here too. I do know what records are and remember playing them when I was growing up but I have no idea what you're talking about when you say there were 45's, 78's and 33's! I mean I've people use those numbers before but I never knew what they meant. I also remember 8-tracks because my mom had one in her car. She had a hard time reaching it though so she taught me how to use it...back when kids rode in the front seat without a car seat unless they were babies.
My parents still have their big console stereo with the turntable 8-track and AM radio. Everything still works in it too and there is a small stash of vinyl and 8-tracks in it. My sister decided to take their more "modern" stereo that had a turntable, dual cassette and AM/FM along with all the cassettes and records that were in it.

I think it's pretty pathetic when people don't know 45's no matter how old they are. 89, 67, 30, 12... it's called a nostalgic part of history. I have a record player that still has an 8-track player in it. I love records and such. I have some myself.
Most of them were my great grandmothers that her and my great grandmother had collected over the years. But they're fantastic.
