I had cats for years. Then a friend had a black lab that needed a home.I'm a dog person and will never go back to cats.Dogs are so much more like humans.

I will always choose a kitten, although I cannot live without having both. After the last puppy I got last yr. I will NEVER potty train another puppy again. Too exhausting.LOL.Cats are just as smart as dogs,if a person would take some time and get to know many different cats, they would understand them. Each one is different.I love them ALL.

yes i agree with your stance. i also like dogs over cats. dogs are sometimes naughty and playfull but they are too fun to be with. i love dogs that's why i have one.

in my experience, which is rather extensive since i've been doing rescue and foster work for 20 plus years... they can learn tricks, they are not moody - they have personalities- you can certainly walk a cat, my mom does it every day with one of hers, and they can certainly protect you ... ever read that article about the cat who woke her people up because of a fire? maybe they won't rip someone's throat out but hey, we have yet to see about that. :-D they're different than dogs, that's the beauty... they're two entirely different critters with entirely different attributes. BUT... they're also alot alike in many ways! and i've found that my oldtimers have been my best friends... comforting me when i'm sick, loving me when no one else has... nothing like it. and yes, dogs do that too!

Yup, I would prefer a kitten before a puppy too, due to my laziness I must add. I love dogs too however and have had many too but always together with cats ;)

I love puppies!!! Kittens in genral are adorbale and playful but then they grow up and they do nothing but whine and lay around and sleep all day. i would chose 100 pupies before i would chose a cat. ive had kittens/ cats more than once for my daughter who wanted a pet where in our rentals we couldnt have dogs. i had to give away y puppy due to this as well.. shed play and love her kitten sit and play with the stings all day etc etc. until it got big and wanted to do nothing but sleep... dogs i agree are more playful and friendly.. you can walk them, teach them, call it by a name and it will run to you with open mouth for kisses!!they can alert you when something is wrong, or someones at the door etc etc... you dont see people training cats to help those in need and you dont see cats in a police car... dogs are just way more advanced... more intelligent than cats... id rather have a pet that could be my friend then one that was "just there"

Although I currently have dogs and no cats, I prefer cats over dogs. As another poster pointed out cats can be trained and they can walk on a leash. I used a leash with my last cat as I didn't want him to wander off on his own yet I didn't want him to feel confined to the house. He was my baby and I took him everywhere with me (yep, he was trained to like the car as well :P). Cats can protect their owners too. And some cats are bigger than some breeds of dogs. Can these little dogs protect their owners anymore than a cat? Plus dogs can't purr like a cat can :P, which personally I find very soothing and relaxing. :D
Cats have always been and will always be my favorite animal. :)

Both pets are cute and cuddly. I wish we could have both at home unfortunately my children are allergic to kitten so we have to stick with a puppy.

Usually I would choose puppies because my family has always had dogs. But when I met my partner, he only had a cat - it was the most beautiful, intelligent, loving creature. My partner agreed that we could get a kitten last year, an it disappeared, I was so distraught...I still miss my little baby; more-so now that my partner's older cat has passed away. We still have two maltese-silky terrier crosses - they are adorable! And are thinking about getting another kitten soon. I love animals. So I will always have as many as is legal and I can comfortably manage.

Well I'm pretty much the opposite of you. I have 6 cats and find them all intelligent, loving, interesting, and full of personality. They are clean, keep themselves and their young and their home habitat spotless, and can look after themselves while you're out at work all day. I find them totally fascinating and can watch them play, and interract all day. Dogs meanwhile, to me, are always yapping and barking, are likely to growl and attack people, need exercise and endless walks, and are nowhere near as clean as a cat. I would never hurt a dog, but I would ever choose to have one as a pet either!

I chose cats aswel.
They're not as must of the people think, independent, unpredicteble, etc. You hae to know the cat. It's like a chalenge, i mean, if you have one, you my think you or someone in your house it his owner, but for the cat it doesn't work like that, he chose who's his owner, you have to earn his trust. He doesn't alow you to rub his belly like every dog, he must trust you, and if for some reason you hurt him, well his belly is not availeble for some time. lol
And about being independent, it's not always like that, mine never leaves me

Both cats and dogs have some positive and negative points. U used to have doberman, pudle and Siamese and each one of them was bringing fun to the family :).
Nowadays I have to work and travel a lot, and can't afford to have any pet, cos J have no time to take care of them, but as soon as I get more quiet life, I'm gonna have a full set
And comparing dogs and cats - for me, it's like comparing whale and elephasnt, or apple and orange
