Of course we told our children that Santa is real, because he IS real. Santa is the spirit of giving that lives in each of us, that prompts us to give to those who don't have, or to give something to someone that we love that we wouldn't normally give them. The legend is based on the real life Saint Nicholas, and it has just evolved over the centuries.

I tell them he is real. They are 3 and 5 and need something to believe in. When they get older I will tell them but for now I enjoy seing there faces when Santa comes and leaves them presents.

No, I don't tell them. I think it's so much fun to see them believing in Santa and look forward to Christmas and tell some stories about the meaning of Christmas and not just Santa. When the kids get into certian age they will tell me that they don't believe in Santa.

It's not so much for the childrens' sake, I think it is good for the soul, it shows us adults how warm a feeling it is to give to others, and the happy feeling of seeing someone receiving a gift! I think this tradition shows young ones that it is good to give to others! The whole world should be like this!!

When our children are little Santa is real. As they get older and start to question we tell them that Santa was a real person who did nice things for people and we carry on his tradition.
I have a friend who doesnt do Santa not for religious purposes but because why should he get all the credit for the hard work they do. She has a good point.
