Most Annoying MyLot Habit.

Without being insulting to any users in particular on mylot, what do you find to be your top 3 most annoying things people do on myLot? For me, I seem to find the most annoying habit of folks on myLot to be the people who respond to your response with "Thanks for responding!" and not really anything else. It's a myLot discussion DON'T! And... I didn't respond to you to help you earn money or to help myself earn money. I responded to you because I had something to say. That's what a DISCUSSION is. A topic is started and then people DISCUSS. When you sit around with friends and family do you thank them for responding to a discussion topic you started? "Have you seen that new game show on last night" "oh yeah. I really liked it" "I didn't. I thought it was rather dull" "thank you for responding!" NO! Discussions don't need thanks! I mean, if you're asking an opinion "what should I do" or "How do I do this" or even "where's the best place to get..." then sure, thank them for helping. But just because they responded to "what's your favorite color?" doesn't mean you need to thank them because you wouldn't thank your neighbor if you asked them the same thing! The other most annoying thing I see are people who don't put their own answer to their discussion. Especially if it's a discussion that requires deep thought. Why ask other people if you can't even answer it yourself? I tend not to respond to these because I don't want to respond unless I know why you're asking this question...what your own opinion is! And to end my top 3, I end it with this. People who start discussions asking what others opinions are on a certain topic and only expect users to respond who AGREE with their opinion. I see this mostly with semi judgemental and/or religious posts. Not everyone is going to have the same opinion as you on anything, even if you asked "what color is the sky". So no one should ever expect the only people to respond to say "omg like i totally agree with you and I don't have a different opinion whatsoever". If you ask opinionated questions you're going to have users who both agree and disagree. You're going to have to agree to disagree or at least try to see others points of views...because otherwise, what's the point in asking for someone else's opinion!?

Okay Raychill, I have to tell you that your 3 most annoying things done on mylot are also mine!! I don't understand people that thank me for my posting- didn't you start the converstaion hopeing for people to post- hello- that is the whole point of mylot- why should I be thanked everytime..lol. When people do not give thier own opinion in a discussion they started- it makes me just move on to the next discussion. It's like having a one sided conversation- you want to know what i think- because you can't decide for yourself- I rather hold conversations with people that have a mind of thier own;) As far as agreeing/ disagreeing- that is what mylot is about- to find out of differences of opinions without all the shouting and bickering that goes on in debates...I welcome people who disagree with something I said- I always end up learning something new from that person.

Ha ha. Nice. It's great to have people agree. Especially on the "thank you" thing. Sometimes I'll even respond to a "thank you" response saying "no need to thank me" or something along those lines! Sometimes I think part of the problem with 2 and 3 of both of our "most hated" is that there are so many people who think mylot is here for easy money and there are people from all over... who we have cultural differences with that seem to cause a big stink and one-mindedness. But that's definitely not where all the blame lies. It's something I try to stay away from, but you never know who isn't going to really "want" your opinion even though they asked.

Oh my you got all top three of mine, so I will just add three more. 1. Posters that can't handle a disagreement and turn to stalking and obsessing. LOL, I have one here right now that is still whining about a disagreement from last week and trashing me. She wanted to trash Mylot, I didn't, so she got ticked. Immature posters that can not grow up and move on are a waste of space IMO. 2. Those point monsters that post anything like "do you brush your teeth" as a topic for a discussion. Come on people, if you don't have anything to discuss, just stick with replying for points. 3. People that start a debate then abandon it. That drives me nuts, I love watching as well as participating in a good debate. However there are some that will start them then run off to start more never to participate in them. Ok that's my three. Good topic BTW + rating!

It's nice to hear that some others share my top 3! Oh! I don't think I've experienced the obsessive stalkers! I agree most definitely with the immature users being a waste of space. it's sad there are so many of them in the world! not just on myLot. Ha ha. Your number 2 is a good one as well. I wish people read the myLot discussion "Don'ts" more often! 3 is a good one also. It's kind of similar to asking the discussion topic and never saying their own opinion. I think people forget the purpose of mylot is to "discuss" and to "discuss" requires more than one question/one answer! Thanks. I've been wanting to ask about this for a while I just had to think of my own top 3!

medstudents4, there are two kinds of immature. There's the fun joking around with friends immature and then there's the immature where you just really are unaware of your immaturity.

This is very nice my friend, I just hope that other members sees this. These are the usual things that people tend to do here, as they can be annoying at times (if not most of the time!).LoL I always believe that we are responsible for the posts we start, create, make. So I believe that it is upon us to read the responses and analyze patiently, if we think the response is already in liue to those previous responses, then skip it and rate it instead of saying thanks. That would save us more time in going through other responses, that deserves comments. I think it could be good if the responder would reiterate another point of view, add another information about the subject and stay within the subject. I always believe that we can give comments but not to give thanks, since it is written under the "DON'Ts" section of mylot guidelines. Also, people should atleast have an open mind whenever they start a post, as most people would like to put things in a more wider perspective. As long as the disagreement is made in a good manner, I believe that it deserves atleast an appreciation or maybe a better understanding, to say the least..

I based my response on your discussion, sorry if I forgot to give my three "most annoying habits." These 3 are, of course, the "thank you" responses. The starting of discussions, that other people would just leave it and then start another one. Also, the inconsiderate members who only response just to earn and not to discuss here.

Well it's funny because I was like, "darn I forgot to put "people who give advice" when I didn't ask for advice" cause that's another of my annoying things I see people do. And I was like "OH NO!" cause I thought that was what you were doing. I see you didn't, you just responded to my things, but I wanted YOUR answers h aha! Your answers are superb as well. We'll never get rid of our annoying mylot habits though! cause we see how many people listen to the mylot "Don'ts" anyway!

With all of that said... I have to ask. What exactly were your top 3 most annoying things? Because it seems you gave reasons why people do things and advice on what people should do, which is nice...but was not what my discussion was about. It was asking you simply what your top 3 things were.

I agree with the responder that mentioned discussions such as "do you brush your teeth". I can kinda ignore those, but what's more annoying is when a poster starts a whole slew of such posts at once. I've seen people rattle off about 20 in 20 minutes, all of the same type of fatuous topic. Clearly this is just a means to boost their earnings, and they have no real interest in the responses. Another peeve is the type of topic meant just to pick a fight, or at least bait people with a inflammatory comment. I'm thinking of political discussions in particular. Again the intent is not a balanced discussion, just a soap box for a bigoted opinion. Finally I'm kinda of irked by responses that are 'holier than though' or generally condescending and 'I've got it all together'. These people are usually not interested in a discussion as their minds are made up. Maybe this just reflects my own confusion about just about everything. And of course, people are like that in the real world too.

I think if we narrowed a lot of these responses down it would be a generalized answer all the same. People who are on mylot just to earn a quick buck, even though it won't work. and People who start 'hot' topics without returning to continue them and/or think their opinion is most important and they're better than you! Yours are good ones too! and yeah, in general people suck...whether on mylot or your next door neighbors.

At the beginning I was so naive that I would join a discussion that was inflammatory, like someone saying something bad about a religion. Then I began to recognize when someone just wants to attract more comments.

The things that me angry in here are the new users posts. They usually just ask something really dumb or they write a phrase that doesn´t make any sense. It is so obvious that they are thinking they can go along with this kind of post and make lots of money. I don´t bother answering because I know that post will be the last one from that person. As for your post I usually don´t respond every comment. Sometimes I ask something where I just want to make people talk, like a post I made once asking what dogs breed people owned. It is not something to be discussed. If I had a Irish Setter and you have a Poodle the only comment I would do would be "poodles are nice too" or "I would never have a poodle". I have to agree about people who doesn´t give their answer to their own posts. It is nice to understand why you are having that discussion. Finally I agree about your last point. It makes me angry how people can just ignore other opinions when they asked for them in the first place. I have had really nice discussions here so far, but I have seen people having problems with that.

Yeah. I don't hate on new users so much because they are new and they need to get the hang first. if they are just in it for a quick buck and disappear, it wasn't worth my time in the first place and if they still haven't gotten the hang, set them right. I think it's better to not answer a comment... like your dog discussion, than to just say "thanks for replying". It's in mylots "Don'ts" so they even say not to do it as it's basically pointless. Sometimes, like your dog discussion, they just don't really warrant responses. I'm super glad to know that other people agree to my points and i'm not in it alone! ha ha.

I've never experienced your number one. Is that a discussion started saying that or a discussion responder? that's sort of silly. I think you can pretty much write about anything without intentionally trying to be offensive. MyLot anger is definitely something that seems to happen all too often and I think both your 2 and 3 are good examples of that!

You've got it all right! I definitely try to respond to all of my commenters as much as possible. So long as I have something inventive to say and not just thanks. Respect is unfortunately not something I think a lot of people know how to use these days. I also hate when people don't comment to any responses. I always wonder how they think they're making money...if they don't comment! I see a lot of folks who just write discussions and never comment and I don't know, personally I like commenting more!

Your discussion was enlightening to me and I agree with you those discussions started but never answered by the poster!

Gee, thanks for starting this discussion and for all of you who responded to it! Just kidding...lol Seriously, I see some mistakes I may have made in the past. I agree with so many of the annoying habits that have already been listed so now I can't pick my top 3. I do want to say that at times I've said "Thanks", but I was expressing my appreciation to someone making a good point or bringing up something that added to the discussion. I try to be easy on the new users since I was there not long ago, I'm probably still "new" to some of you here. I've been guilty of starting a discussion and not giving my own opinion right off the bat. I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to annoy anyone I just wanted to see what some other myLotters thought. And if I ever start a discussion on a "hot" topic it's because I WANT to discuss it rationally and get other opinions. I always respect others' opinions whether they agree with me or not. I, too, wish people would look at their posts before they submit. Now and then I let a typo get through and it makes me mad at myself when I do! I hope someone YELLS at me if I do it here! Annie

My first don't would be those who start discussions just for the sake of belittling other people's beliefs. I see no reason why it is necessary to start fights. Espcially when the person who started the discussion has no facts to back up their rude accusations. My second would be one clearly stated in the guidelines. DO NOT post referral links. It's clearly stated that that is something not to do. There are even discussions about that. And then when their discussion is deleted, they start another discussion on the unfairness of their first post getting deleted. My last would be those who get into a fight with someone in a certain discussion, then post a brand new discussion over the person who made them mad. They even include the link to the discussion that started the fight. Tacky and definitely not something MyLot would care to have on their site. *An honorable mention goes out to the people who don't reread their post before they submit it. They willingly admit they don't recheck it for spelling or grammar saying that is just takes too much time. Yeah, well if you don't have the time to fix it, I don't have the time to read it.

I was surprised that no one else before you mentioned referral links. Fortunately for me I don't read a lot of those types of discussions where the people would post those things, but It IS annoying when it's a clear cut rule! It seems your one and three are popular answers though. But very very good ones! I whole heartedly agree. I dig your honorable mention. I mean sometimes I still make mistakes and proof-reading is part of what I do for a living! But all-in-all I don't understand why MyLot has that as a rule, that we can't correct grammar or spelling. Especially those who aren't fluent in English. I actually think it would help them if no one was MEAN about it!

Ok, I guess you pretty much covered my pet peeves too, here on my lot. But I can't just repeat everything you said, so I'll add another one, which has happened with me in the past. It is the discussion which you're the only responder to, and the person who started it doesn't even respond back, and then after a while choose you as best response, and then they also have to mention that they chose you because "you were the only one who answered". Like I needed to know that, it's like giving someone a gift and then telling them that they don't actually deserve it. I mean, they don't comment on the subject of your response, they don't elaborate on their own topic, just those words.

Well, out of your 3 I tend to do one and that is #1. I always thank ppl for taking time out to reply to my post. For me it is a common courtesy. Some don't feel that way and it's no big deal if someone doesn't thank me but I like to do it. I don't think it makes any difference in earnings since I don't think you get paid for responding to someones response. #2 doesn't really bother me b/c if I feel like answering I do and if I don't, I don't. #3 I was guilty of when I first started on MyLot. I've gotten better about it. My 3 pet peeves are: 1--Ppl that jump down your throat when you express your opinion and they don't like it. Everyone doesn't have to agree with me...I don't expect them to...but just like everyone else I have the right to my own opinions. 2--Ppl that get mad and resort to name calling and insulting which is just so childish. and #3--Ppl that reply to a discussion only to say rude, hateful and nasty things b/c they didn't like what you had to say. If you really don't like the topic, why waste your time responding. With the thousands and thousands of topics on here surely you can find something you like to talk about. If someone doesn't agree, great, say so and give your views but theres no reason to get rude and hateful about it. Have a great day!! AT PEACE WITHIN

Well Like i said in my post, There are times when a thank you is warranted and a time when Thank you's are uncalled for. When I respond to a discussion and the ONLY response I get back is "thank you" it makes me feel like the person didn't even READ my response. Then I wonder why I wasted my time responding when they didn't even make the effort to read it. I mean, I could just say "thanks" to every one of my responses and never read them. When you respond with MORE than just a thank you, at least I know you read my response. If you add a thank you in that's fine, but it's the responses with ONLY "thanks for responding" that I don't agree with. Plus, Like I said... it's actually a "don't" in the myLot guidelines. So really, you're not supposed to do it. It's funny you said you were guilty of my number 3 and yet your number 1 is very similar. :) You should never expect the world to agree with you... because the world would be a pretty dull place if everyone thought the same way about everything. I definitely can't stand the rudeness and inconsiderateness of some people out there so I can whole heartedly agree with your 2 and 3.

What I hate is when a person posts in a language that they are not familiar with. I am not trying to show any prejudice here, but what is the purpose of making a post that no one understands? Is there different sections of mylot for other languages/nations? Because I come across titles that might make for a good post, but when I try to read them I get so twisted around and dizzy that I say to heck with it and go to the next post. If these people were allowed to post in their own language, it would be much easier to understand. Since they are familiar with it, they would be able to make posts that make sense to those people who can read that language. I understand that some things in translation get garbled, but some of these posts are ridiculous.

In all honesty, I agree. However, since myLots' owners or what have you are from America and do not fluently speak other languages but yet allow all users from anywhere in the world to post, they have a rule that it must be in English. We're also not (as it's against the rules) allowed to critique others Grammar or Spelling or what have you. I was just saying to someone else I think, sometimes, it might help so long as no one was harsh. A lot of non-English speaking folks enjoy it I've heard because it helps them to learn English, but if we can't tell them what they've done wrong, they won't get a lot more help! right? There are some discussions I can't respond to because of the bad broken English but we just have to hope they'll keep studying!

Hi there. I have stumbled upon some posts that I had a hard time trying to understand. There were times that I get confused if whoever posted the discussion was asking a question or just making a statement. And there were times that I don't even get what they want to say.

Well raychill, I always comment on my discussions, although it sometimes takes me a while to get back to them. The only responses I will not comment on are those of four or five words; those that are unintelligible, or those that are downright rude. One response I recently got to a discussion was, "That's sad." I did not deem that response worthy of commenting on. Some members have a problem with the language and it is hard to interpret what they are trying to say in their responses. I usually try, however.

OMG, like I totally agree with you.:P You are so right. Okay...my three. 1. I can't stand how defensive people are on MyLot. You can't express an opinion on many topics without someone jumping down your throat if you have a different opinion from them. What's the point of posting a discussion if you don't want to hear people's opinions, even if they are different? People have no right to criticize others based on opinions. They are just what the word says...Opinions. No one says you have to change your own beliefs. 2. Topics with absolutely no point. Money making sites, how much money I made off so and so, etc. How am I supposed to respond to some of those topics and respond with a good answer? And if you do, you get a 'thanks for responding'. 3. Discussions and responses that make NO SENSE. I mean come on. Go back over what you wrote and make sure it is coherent before you hit the send button. I don't really mind it if someone can't spell all that well, and we all make typos on ocassion(:P), but to just send things that look like a jumble of letters strung together is pointless. I said my piece and you already know how I feel on many things. :P

Raychill, read your post and the comments here. As for your "All people care about on Mylot is money!". My two-cents worth on this: everyone cares about making money, including me, but don't think one can really make much of that here. There's more and better ways to make money online than in Mylot. I see many people using this site as a way to earn. There's no wrong in that. Only gripe is the quality of the discussion topic gets lowered. Sigh. Maybe there are other forum on the web with better and more thought-provoking discussions on them.

I mean, well, almost everything. Even so, I know how to R-E-S-P-E-C-T others opinions. You try to see others sides or just simply agree to disagree. I think people who don't have opinions are crappy but people who can't accept someones different opinions are even more worthless! All people care about on mylot is money! Duh :p Someone suggested that mylot should make people take a test. It was one of my earlier responses. I think that's a GREAT idea. if they don't pass their acceptance into mylot is DENIED! ha ha. Great points! I should just say that and stop so I could be your #2 most annoying person :) Anywya, I tend to expect people to agree with me (b/c of course I'm always right ;) ) but when ppl disagree with me I will really think about their reasons and sometimes even change my mind. It's good to have conviction and believe in your statements, but it's bad to think your statements are the only ones. I don't know if I can think of 3 annoying things but here is one... Ppl who start a million discussions about very boring topics. It gets tiring when I look at "discussions from friends" and see a million topics by the same person and all are things like "do you like pie?", "what color is your favorite", "who do you look up to?" Basically, all their topics are very generic and short. Anyone can easily answer them, so they probably are just trying to make money easily. Don't get me wrong, if someone starts a million discussions but all are interesting and thoughtful, I don't have a problem with that.

You're lucky if you can only think of one! Ha ha. I can think of a new annoying thing every day! But yeah. you know I have a few people on my friends list who will do that. They'll post like 12 new posts within 5 minutes and I end up deleting them all because none of them are interesting at all. All one liners. I've heard, don't know if it's true, that you don't even earn unless the post is 3 lines long. That's probably not true, but for my own personal reason to respond or not respond I always make sure it's a post that's at least 4 to 5 lines long. It's got more content that way!

For me, the top 3 most annoying things people do in mylot are.. 1. Adding people just so that they can send their referral links or should I say spamming. 2. Copy and paste.. most spammers copy and paste any article on the internet or even other responses so that they can have more posts for a day, 3. Referral links.. since I can really see a lot of em even though I think they are aware that it is not allowed. :)

So basically all in all, you hate spammers? yeah. They are pretty much a waste of mylot space!

1. Plagiarism: When they copy word for word from something someone else wrote and pass it off as their own. 2. Referral Links: People other than newbies, as I cut them a little slack because I too make mistakes when I first joined myLot, but seasoned people who should know better shamelessly trying to use myLot to recruit for other programs. 3. Replies that show complete lack of understanding of a discussion especially when they are in your face. Incidentally, the other day I saw a discussion that had about 7 pages of replies and fully 2/3 of them were from different people saying "I don't know" in a limited variety of ways. I thought, "Wow!"--these folks found a home.

Those are some mighty good choices yourself. I ALWAYS report straight up plagiarism. Like, it's not that hard to NOT copy stuff. Get the idea, but don't copy it word for word. I don't usually read posts that have referral links in them so it doesn't bother me too much. But your number 3 is KILLER. I completely and whole heartedly feel that. It's quite ridiculous to me the amount of dumbness that people use. I notice once in a while with my few and far between posts that people don't even remotely READ my post and just answer it the way they want...not answering what I asked. I hate that.

well it's not that i find all that you said annoying, i just don't bother with them, especially when they say thanks for responding. They are obviously using it to increase their posts. It's just so obvious. Well let's just say we'll know which people are here solely for the money and which people are interested in more than just money. ^_^

Uhm, BTW, I'm not saying all of the people who say thanks are guilty of wanting to increase earnings.... ^_^

Well let's see... I'm sorry i just can't think of anything that's really annoying me except people who still use discussions or post just to plug their money making sites or some other... Isn't that against the rules or terms of use or something? They should just post such if the person who started the discussion asked for such. But if not, i think that's not supposed to be done... *sigh*

for some reason I feel like I should report this as abuse, most likely because my mouse just ran over the button and I just noticed the pop up telling me what it was for, but I can not, WHY? because it is all true, so instead of reporting it I will just have to rate this as positive, don't forget to thank me for responding ..hahahaha......no really, don't!!!.
