What is your favorite "comfort meal"?

If you've had a really long or bad day, and just want to eat something that makes you feel better, what do you choose to cook? Do you head for the foods that are bad for you, or do you try to eat healthy, while still trying to comfort yourself?
I think my favorite comfort meal is smoked sausage, cut into small pieces, and then fried / pan grilled. I dip the pieces in mustard when I eat them. If I'm really ambitious, I will also make a can of mini whole potatoes with vinegar and butter. It's a very flavorful meal, and always makes me feel better after I've eaten it. Of course, it's horrible for me! :)

This may sound crazy to some, but I think the one that comes to mind first when you ask this question is, a good old fashioned plate of english fish and chips, covered in vinigar, no ketchup, or any other sauces, just FCV all the way. It gives me that warm feeling thru out, and is still a favirite on cold nights.

I'm a big fan of pretty much any vinegar, so I do understand your comfort food. I don't care for fish too much, but I like the "chips" part of that meal! :)

Mashed potatoes. I don't know why, I never was a big potato eater when I was growing up.
Chocolate chip cookie dough is another one. It seems to always settle the nerves when I'm stressed out about something. I wish I wasn't so stressed about things, because it's been making me FAT! LOL!

Oh yes, mashed potatoes with the kind of brown gravy that comes out of a packet is wonderful comfort food for me too! I used to run and get that from KFC whenever I was feeling a little ill (sore throat) too, and I swore it made my throat get better... probably all the salt!

KFC potatoes and gravy are the absolute best! I don't know what it is... maybe the "fakeness" of it, and all the salt?
Thank you for the BR!!! :)

Mac & cheese seems to have some sort of unconscious connotation with childhood, I think, and maybe that's why people like it as a comfort food. I know that you're not the only one who likes it when they aren't feeling their best! :)

When I'm bummed out, I deffinately want starchier things like rice or noodles. There is just something about carbs that is so comforting. Mashed potatoes too, or really good bread.
I also have to admit I love salty snacks....you know, things from the Chip isle at the grocery store. I think som of my favorites are Smartfood Popcorn, Funyuns, and the crunch cheetos. All totaly junk for you, but when I am snacking away on then I just feel better.

Yeah, I think for me it is a combination of starches and saltiness, though it also somehow involves really sour tastes, like mustard and vinegar.

Sweets do make great comfort foods, but I find that I'm drawn to saltier things when I'm in a bad mood. Well, sometimes it's a little of both. :)

I have so many foods that 'warm' me up and make me feel better. However, I have recently been turning to sushi, especially if I have had a really horrible (an 11 on a scale of 10 horrible-ness) day. So this doesn't happen often I guess, which is good since ordering sushi can get expensive. At least its not super fatty. Other comfort foods of mine include ice cream, mac and cheese and chocolate. However I'm not the type of person that seeks food when I'm stressed or unhappy. I actually do the opposite and tend not to eat at all.

grilled cheese-with a very sharp cheddar and lots of butter. it has to be really grilled on the stove-like my Nana used to make. Also cinnamon toast also with lots of butter. I guess I just like butter-is that wrong?
