She's just a kid....leave her alone.

I'm sure most of you have seen the clip on YouTube with Miss Teen South Carolina and her onstage blunder. I feel really bad for her. I've done pageants before, and I know how horrifying it is to stand up there and prepare to be asked a question and be judged on your answer. Blunders happen!! How many Miss Americas have given really dumb answers before? I realize that her answer was practically incoherant, but to post this all over the internet and to forever me known as the girl who said "Some people don't have maps" has got to hurt. I gave a silly answer to a question once in a pageant and my family has yet to let me live it down for it....that is bad enough...I don't know if I could handle the whole world knowing. I think people should give her a break. She's a high school student!! You can bet her classmates can't answer the same question in class, much less on a stage in front of thousands of people and a panel of judges.

I thought it was hilarious. I'm not that sympathetic. She has been in lots of pageants where the whole thing is to be put on the spot. She failed miserably. She would have done better doing a little jig ala Ashely Simpson, and just ran away.

I agree with you bonbon, she would have been better off just shutting up, saying "and world peace" and walking off the stage, but sometimes, the mouth just doesn't close. I think her answer was horrific, but what saddens me is that people are pouncing on it to make fun of her. Weren't we always taught growing up not to tajke joy in others' pitfalls?

I agree with you. When you enter in such a very large national pageant you know that poise and being able to present yourself in a favorable light which portrays you as the very best teenager America has to offer. I think she made our teenagers appear to the rest of the world as stupid

According to your response and comments to my discusion regarding Miss Teen Carolina I have one question are you related to her? I certainly hope that some of her classmates have a least a smidgen of intelligence.

No, I have no idea who this girl is. I only found out about this whole ordeal today. I just feel really bad for her because I've been in her shoes...on stage with a question being asked where my mind went completely blank, I forgot all the things I had learned about my platform, forgot all the things I had planned to say, and my answer was crap. It sucked, and my family still laughs at me for it. That's bad enough...I can't imagine having that scene being splattered all over the internet. Intelligence doesn't always show clearly when you're under pressure like that. I'm not an idiot, but my answer that night in that pageant sure made me look like one!! People goof up. She's just so young. If she was a government official, I could understand...but she's a young girl...how is it fair that every one in the country now knows she mispoke?

And like I told rollo up there, when you're starting to blubber on, half your brain is yelling at you to shutup, and the other half is thinking...well if I just keep talking maybe I can fix all the dumb stuff that just came tumbling out of my mouth.

I felt the same way when I saw it. If she had just blundered through I would have figured that she couldn't think of an answer but her ramblings went so far off-topic, I figured she just didn't really hear the question (probably because she was nervous) and should have asked to hear it again but because of nervousness, didn't. She will survive it, I am sure. But it's pretty hard to have the whole internet laughing at you.

That's the problem with when you can't think of an answer. When you're on stage, part of your brain keeps saying "JUST SHUT UP" and the other part says "Keep talking in hopes that you can recover from this somehow"
