A move to New York

I am thinking about moving to New York from the UK where I am at the moment. I have lived in Spain for a long time and feel I need a change. I am a single mum who would like to bring her current business to the States. Can anybody give me any tips on Visas, the move....My son is 3 and a half so I would like to do this before school gets serious. Any help on rental agreements, what to look for? Thanks
