Public School vs. Private School

What's your opinion on the whole "Private school kids are alot brighter than public school kids" ? Did you or do you attend a private school or public school? Or have you attended both? Do you think you could have done better if you would of attended a private school rather than public? Would you have rather of attended a public school? I'm attending a public school at moment & studying Mathematics, Psychology and Chemistry. In my opinion it's the student's co-operation rather than the school. However, I do believe that I can reach my full academic potential had I been in an independent school or an international school. Your opinions?

I have been through public schools all my life so I don't know if there is any difference at all from personal experience. However I can say that I did enjoy my time at public school and looking back at it, I don't think there is much else that could have been improved. In fact from going to a public school, I had avoided large fees so that is one bonus for sure.

I went to public school for my elemntary and high school, and then a private for the tertiary level. I think it depends, here in our place there arfe some public schools that are a lot better than the private ones, but there are public schools to that really is not good.

I went to public schools as a child & teenager. In fact, they were considered the worst in the state for various reasons. I still did very well, having a degree in education. This was very unusual where I came from. I only ever taught in public schools myself, even though I had the qualifications to teach in private schools. My daughter, who is one of the top year 9 students in the start goes to a public school. So yes, I am a public school supporter. I have to admit now, that to give your child a good education, you must choose the school carefully. I understand that some parents send ther kids to private schools for religious reasons, which is fine. However, many parents send their kids to a private school, thinking they will get a better education. This is not neceassily the case.

Six of my nieces and nephews attended a private Christian school for two years. While they received an excellent biblical foundation, when they went back to public school, they were far behind their grade level. I know that all private schools are not the same, but I believe if I were to ever send a child of mine to a private school, it would have to be very well investigated. It was like they dropped out for two years and had to make up for it.

To me it depends on the school teacher and the student. If the teacher know nothing to teach and the student is not studying well nothing in the mind of the student will be instill. Let us say a top student with so much enthusiasm was handled by a teacher who knows nothing to teach. The students goal to learn more will be lessened. Private school is still the best because you can demand to the teacher if she or he is not doing well in her teaching strategies. Let's face it there are teachers who are qualified because of their presented documents but they have nothing to teach to their students. I should know because I have encountered some.

Well actually iv been to a private and public school and People says students on a private school are more intelligent than to the public.. but Nope coz honestly speaking, its up to the student how he/she study his/her subjects that make him intelligent or smart one. But one thing is true that private students has advantage if talking to facilities and materials and way of teaching. but still even your on public school even you dont have good facilities and materials...you can also find many ways of how you improve your studies and by this you will learn to be more responsible and autonomous. But if you like to have good future will be good to your studies no matter where school you are...a private or public.....

That is true, private schools are a lot brighter.I attended private school for 10 years, and I learned more stuff there than the public school I attended for 2 years. In the public school, there were students that disrupt the class more often and the teacher barely gotten any work in for the students.Private schools, the classes were smaller, and the teacher can give the student individual help, and it is more civilized.

I went to both Public School and Private School. Some of them are high rangking schools where I studied. In my opinion, it doesn't have much difference in terms of its quality. You will learn the same thing. In Math, students are still learning that 1 + 1 = 2. You're not going to be taught that 1 + 1 = 3, are you? However, I don't mean that we should go to a school where the environment is shady. What I mean is ... there are many public schools which are also carrying good education. Also, there are also many private schools which are only so so. So, we can't single out the school. We can't also generalize the kids who went to the public schools. The future of kids are not merely determined whether their schools are Public or Private. Success can't also be determined by the ranking of your schools. In fact, there are many people who are successful but they didn't go to top ten university or schools. It is you who will hold and determine your success. Although I don't deny that private schools may offer better facilities and better networking opportunities, I can't be impressed only by it. High rangking schools may also increase the prestige of your resume but it will not be a great factor in life.

I absolutely agree with you about students' co-operation. It really doesn't matter where you go, it's your priority and attitude toward the school that counts. I attended both private and public, and I can't point my finger at which one is better. I am now a parent, I think, private means money, therefore, it gains a little higher level over public schools. I have known people who have kids in private school and complain constantly about their private school. But, they won't put their kids in public school either, because now they'd established their "status", so they said.

I've been to both...a private school when I lived in Jamaica and public when I moved to the US. In my opinion it is just a perception that one is better than the other. I think you hit the nail right on the head when you stated that "it's the student's cooperation rather than the school." I would also add parental involvement.

Having attended both kinds of school, i would anyday prefer private schools to public, though it would all vary from personal choices and preferences of people and also what kinds of schools exist at your part of the country, as some public schools are better off than the private ones, so it would all depend. We were initially in a public school which was supposed to be the best one around. But it had its limitations as the teachers dont care very much regarding the performace of the child, as they are paid either ways, once the teachers dont care, students arent bothred much regarding the results too. Then the number of students were a large amount, so no personalised attention could be given. There were not enough facilities around either, for sports of other equipments and activities. Later i joined a private school and realised how the real world actually is, what is the real competitve world as it had well trained and dedicated staff of teachers and assistant too. The laboratories and other equipment were the latest and their library was well eqipped too. All these things matter, and the number of kids per class were half of the public school where the teacher knew each child on the back of her hand. I certainly did better in the private school and won many competitions and scored well in by exams too.I think over all what depends most is good staff of teachers and other things a school provides, infrastructure etc, though now a days students have to take care and put in effort themselves and have to study on ther own, thats the best option, of course after self studies if they find difficulties, teachers are always there.

I have been in both public and private. From where I have been, they both have the brighter students and than the average or worse. It helps in private schools that the teacher doesn't have to take care of so many students. But I have had teachers in public school that were a great deal better than some that I had in private school. It all pretty much depends on the school.

Not true, some bright kids don't have the money for private schools but they can handle it. it is not because some1 can't pay for a private school that he is stupid!

I attended private school because my father was self-educated having had to leave school at 14, he saw education as a number one priority and he wanted to give his kids (us) the best possible schooling he could, so that we could have what he didn't. In my school, which was a day school (ie we lived at home), classes were very small (about 14 to a class) so therefore teachers found it easier to give us individual attention and if any of us fell behind the others, we were told we had to stay behind after lessons had finished. Because most of us didn't want to do that, we were motivated to try harder to keep up the standards of the rest of the class. If I had been in a larger school, with larger classes, I think I would have been only too happy to slip into the background. So I was spared the "easy ride" during my school days, but I am grateful for what my dad did for me.

I went to public school, and so does my son even though he's special needs. If the public school isn't an environment that he can learn in then he'll go to a private school -- probably one specifically for Autistic kids. But I'm a big fan of public school, if only for the socialization. I've known a few people who went to private school and they were awkward in social situations.
