I have heard stories about wealthy people leaving so much of their wealth to their beloved pets and a small portion to their relatives. I have just read one in the internet today. However, I do wonder why some people would choose their pets to inherit a bulk of their wealth. I have nothing against them, that is their decision,I respect that and I know they have their reasons. But I am just really wondering why? How about you, don't you at least wonder why?

Hello, faith, my dear friend. It is not easy to guess why. I think that maybe they are just pet lovers. They concern more about their pets because they can bring them happiness and much pleasure. There is one point that I need to mention, ie, pets are also considered to be one member of the family. That is why they would rather leave their money to their pets once they leave their pets. It is normal. Lol.

Hi williamjisir, my friend! I guess, you are right about that pets do give you much happiness too because I love our dogs. But sometimes, I can't help but think that much wealth can help a lot of poor people who are starving in some countries. However, I respect such thoughts and decisions because it is their money and they have the right to dispose it as they please. Take care and have a nice day!

Thanks for your interesting response. In the society, there are indeed people of different kinds with different thoughts. Some would rather pay more attention to their pets, others would pay more attention to the poor people under poverty line. Like what you said, faith, it is their right to decide how to use the money they have. To those people, I think that maybe they are animal protectors. What do you think both think? But if I had that much money, just like what I narrated in one of my old topic, I would help those poor children to gain more knowledge and skills so that they would be able to have the ability to help themselves to live a better life. Thanks, you two, friends.

Probably they have lost faith in humans (near relatives and family members) and also they must have found profound love with these pets and consider that their salvation lies in serving these pets I suppose.

Hi ssh123! Yes, they might probably lost faith in humans. We can never know what they have experienced which is why they have made such a decision like that. Thanks for sharing your view. Take care and have a nice day!

I can give your one good reason. Usuually this happens, when the family of the deceased person, have neglected them over the years. It comes to a point, when a lonely, elderly person, sees no love in their lives. The only thing that has ever given them love, are their pets, or someone elses pets.

hi jeenybianca! yes, there some instances that some people could only find solace and comfort from their pets and it is sad that people, especially the elderly are being neglected by their own children. if this is why, then it is now wonder why they will decide to leave their wealth to those who think have given them the love that they needed. thanks for sharing your view. take care and have a nice day.

I totally agree with your comment too! It is sad that people, especially families, could be so horrid. It sickens me! The elderly are just as important a resource as our children. Where children are our hopes, dreams and futures; the elderly are our determination, courage and guidance, they prove that it can be done and deserve much more than they get! I know that when people age in my family they are and will be just as important as my self. The continued and sufficient care and happiness of those I love by far surpasses any need of mine.

In gaining all that wealth they've probably alienated all the people around them leaving only their pets to comfort them. Who else would they leave it to then?

Hi uath13! Yes, maybe that is true somehow. Their pets are the most loyal and the most trusted friend always at their side, comforting and giving them much happiness. Our pets have shown the same sweetness too especially when I feel kinda sad and lonely. So, I guess as for them, there is no one to leave their wealth but to those who gave them comfort and happiness. Great point that i haven't really thought about. Take care and have a nice day!

i have no idea of why..does it literarilly means pets inherit their wealth like what it is like on a will of testament? if thats so, i dunno but i kinda think its funny absurd..lolzz..could be that they don't mix well with their relatives knowing other wealthy people just give their love to their pets when they feel like they aren't love from relatives for a reason..( meaning was love by wealth ) thats the only idea i can think of why..

Hi angel_of_charm! Yes, you got it right friend. The pets inherit the cash and all that glitters and it is written in their will and testament. Well, I guess the pets have shown more love than the relatives. Thanks for your response and have a nice day! Take care.

Indeed, the pets give the kind of love they WISH the family-members gave. Maybe they do it partly to hurt the family-members---revenge for the family-love withheld

That just shows how really different we are. I remember one time about on mylotter who said that if there is fire and she has to choose between saving her cats and her children, she would save the cats. I find it terrible but i respect her choices no matter how i would never understand it. The same with leaving animals with so much wealth, instead of leaving it to a charity, relative or a poor person who is so deserving of a good break.

Hi cdparazo! I do agree with you completely and although this is a forum wherein we meet a lot of different people with different beliefs and culture, we can not help but sometimes compare ourselves to them. We do respect their difference and hoping that difference will somehow contribute in making each and everyone of us better persons. I do share your opinion and I just hope that people like us living in a country where those wealthy dogs have better lives than our poor will be given the break that we all badly need. God bless and take care always. have a nice day! :)

I am thinking because either they dont really have someone to leave it to, someone they love and trust enough, and these pets have been their loyal companions, so they want someone to take care of them when they die, and they figure with the money goes the pet and maybe they'll be taken care of. Also, it leaves the decision of who to leave the money to a mute point, by leaving it to their pet they do not have to make the difficult decisions, about where money should go and such, that is just my humble opinion, =)

Hi stacyv81! There are a lot of different opinions regarding this topic but very good insights. It is only just human for us to react about money, especially when it is really huge; however, we know that some people are not that fortunate with their families and friends that to leave their wealth to their pets is the best decision they could think of in their own point of view. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this topic, I really appreciate it. Take care and have a nice day.

Americans care about pets more than ever today. Nearly two-thirds - 63 percent - of households have a pet, and pet lovers spent $38.5 billion on their pets in 2006, up from $21 billion a decade earlier. According to the Census Bureau, in the last decade, the percentage of homes with pets has remained relatively stable, but the amount of money people spend on pets has doubled. We spend several billion dollars more on dog and cat food than on baby food. According to Bob Vetere, the president of the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association, 42 percent of pets sleep in the same bed as their owners - up from 34 percent in 1998. I found no statistic saying what percentage of people share their beds with other humans, but it's obvious that pets are catching up. Pets provide company, calm, and comfort in troubling times. Others point to the fact that many people these days are deciding not to have children, so they have pets - and spend freely on them. Some people, very freely.

Thank you for your thoughts, really appreciate it. take care and have a nice day! :)

Hi andrejuly84! I guess, some pets are really very, very lucky indeed. Maybe in the will, there are conditions that are stipultated for the proper care and disposal of the money regarding their pets. But you know what, we feel the same way. Thanks for your response, really appreciate to know your view. Take care and have a ncie day!

Wow! That's is really amazing. I haven't read a one fact or story. If it does happen today, we don't really wonder, animals seem to know better how to show love then a man who has a heart and a mind. We seem to be consumed by our minds desires but forgot to show a little kindness to our loved ones.

Hi jeanniemay! Oh, this was a true story and it was published in the newspaper a month ago, I think. It is really amazing but I can't really blame the old woman for doing such thing because she might lost her faith in humanity somehow. Take care and thanks for responding. Have a nice day.

I think its because pets love you unconditionally. Family, and don't get me wrong I am not talking about everyone, but I assume they are only out for the money. I am sure they are aware of that and resent this. So they leave it to there pets, they are the one that represented as a loving companion.

I can never seem to find justification for that ,just as i cant understand why these persons would make homes for their pets that are much bigger than the homes of many persons.Granted there are persons who have little or no interaction with humans and their animals fill the void left by the lack of humans but that still does not mean that they should leave everything to an animal who cant spend it

Hi ronnyb! I do share the same sentiment my friend. It is sad, is it not when you hear or read about these things in the newspapers. I guess, there are some people who thinks that the only ones who can love them back are their pets. I just hope that these wealthy people can find in their hearts some compassion for their fellow humans somehow. Thanks for sharing your thoughts my friend! Take care and have a great day! lovelots..faith

Obviously their animal companion has been the most loyal and loving, faithful individual to them.I don't blame them at all, they want to make sure their care is upkept somehow.I hope they had found a decent overseer before they passed.

THE RICH TEND TO DISLIKE HUMANITY, when they finaly shuffle off this mortal coil, and realise they really cant take it with them, fee fee or trixybell seems the better option than anyone else blessed be

maybe its because. they treat their pets as household mambers. or maybe their relatives are not that good to them that's why some rich people chooses their loving pets rather than them.

I don't understand it too. I know pets are in family and I love my cats but if i get that mush money, I will help the poor with that. I will try to spend it for the people can't eat two times a day. I have read that too and was really surprised. But as you said its her money so he has the right at the same time we get the time to think about this and ask ourselves if we were there, what we should have done? Do we think for the people living under the poverty line or our eyes can't reach that point? Thanks for this topic dear!

Hi cmsk2005! I am from a country that has so many poor people and when I read that, it made me feel so very sad because with so many millions it can feed a lot of poor people and not just a beloved pet. Yes, I have mentioned that it is her money and she has the right to dispose it as she wish. But this just a wishful thinking on my part that somehow, people will be more aware of how other people live especially those who are dying because of hunger. Take care and have a nice day.

a few possible reasons... #1 - that their relatives are rich enough to add more wealth #2 - that their relatives were probably unkind(before)to accept a big portion of the inheritance - therefore they receive little. #3 - that their relatives were known to spend wealth wrongly/unwisely...therefore pets/animals were chosen to inherit that big portion under the watchful eyes of the concerned parties..(NGOs,etc..)
