What would you replace them with? Let's examine this. Religions, the major ones, Christianity, Judaism, Muslim, have standards, such as not stealing, not lying, only killing in self-defense, being faithful to your spouse, etc. But what if religions were abandoned, and people say, as many humanists say, that it okay for people of a certain race or ethnic group to steal because they were persecuted in the past, or it is all right for people from a certain group to kill people of another group because of what they might do. And would it be okay for someone to invite a person into his house, and then rob him because he is from an enemy culture? You see, once religion is abandoned, then people will do what they feel is right in their own eyes, letting people off because they feel sorry for them, giving stricter sentences to those who have more money than they do, and treating them not according to what is right, but what feels good to them.

I wouldn't do away with religion. Many people grasp a certain religion because they feel it in their hearts and minds and this cannot be wrong. What i would do away with is the intolerance of certain religious people. We are all humans. I think my religion is valid and it is. people of pagan beliefs feel that their religions are valid, and they are. the brain should be the strongest muscle, yet many in the religious community refuse to use the brain. I, however, won't let them stop my beliefs.

That's because you live in the "Bible Belt". I'm a Christian and I had a hard time myself, living there.
I would not ban all religions but I would ban anyone who isn't wearing a shirt in their avatar.

I do agree that some people do think they are superior but that is the person. I think they would feel that way with or without religion. It isn't the religion that is the problem it is the people who are fanatics. I would not like to see religion banned as it does give society a code of ethics to live by. I don't go to church but I still have some Christian beliefs and I don't think you can ban someone's beliefs regsardless of what religion they are.

I completely agree with you! Several wars are conflicts are started because of religious indifferences. And yes, some religious people do tend to think they are better than you. Good discussion! ;)

I totally agree that to many people use their religion as a way to feel superior or as and excuse to hate those that they deem to be sinners.
This is not what religion is suppose to be about. I'm fairly certain that Jesus, Budda, or any other great religious teachers would not approve of this behavior in their followers. But so many religions are so far off path from what they were intended.
Still I'm not sure how you would go about doing away with religion. You would have to take away a lot of personal freedoms in order to do so.

religion is indeed, the downfall of man.
the day we replace religion with reason, the world would be a much better place...
ofcourse we would still have wars over oil and money, but religion wont be their to justify anything IE holocaust.

It seems as if that would become a bit extreme, but I don't think I would. I just think that I would change a few of their violent views about things.
