We are four in the family, 3 boys and i'm the only girl and the youngest. When i was a small kid. i remember that my father would tell my brothers when they are crying because of something he'll say that "boys don't cry" . i thinking before why they have this saying, and why people think boys don't cry.. i don't believe in this until now because i think boys will be boys but they also have feelings and they also get hurt and can cry. Maybe it's the only way of my father to say "stop crying!" or maybe he just want my brothers to be strong in life cause they are boys and will soon be man and be a father of the family. i guess he doesn't mean it literally. Now, when i remember this i just wonder how many people here believe that boys don't cry? or they shouldn't cry? tell me your opinions about this.

Hi claire Boys - mean men - are so proud. So we don't want to promote we cry, our thinking is the crying is a soft thing and men are hard. But the true is we cry too but it happens "once in a blue moon". Men has feelings you're right, but most of all wants to hide the feelings and says: I'm so strong. So that's I can tell you.

i think that is another reason too why they say boys don't cry. Cause they want to show they are tough and can face anything in life. i guess this is somewhat true! Man likes to be a strong figure!

I think the expectations of others also come into play. In an emotional situation everybody expects the boy to be strong , to take care of the others. Boys are lot less emotional than girls or at least they show less emotion and most importantly if a boy cries for something its more likely that everyone will remember and tease him later , But if a girl cries nobody remembers.

Everyone should cry. I think we are getting away from the time when "real mean don't cry" that's nonsense. I've seen my father cry, not boo hoo tears rolling down face yelling crying, but I've certainly seen him get emotional and teary and he didn't try to hide it. Crying is good for you it's a release of stress. My boyfriend doesn't cry. His father left him when he was a young child and I thing that affected him. He thinks he is being weak for crying and I think that's bull. I wouldn't think any less of him if he cried. Showing emotion is not a reason to feel week. It's good to cry.

Crying is a relief of stress. It is also a great way for cleansing the eyes I've learned first hand. That's why our eyes water at times is to cleanse them. So crying is great be you a man boy woman or girl. Even animals cry sort of. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I do not believe this statement. And I am proff of that myself. I was always told by my dad that men don't cry. Asking him why he laughed and said I'd learn in time why not. I cried one day due to my dog running away and dad called me a little baby. That hurt more than my dog being gone. So I knew what he meant now as people can be crude and rude in situations like this. That was my take on the reasons why. Well I cried a lot as I was an abused child. Even to this day I still cry. Mom passed away over 10 years ago and near every big Holiday like Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving I cry due to my missing her. I have even cried in public at movies. I guess I am a softy but men and/or boys do cry. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I think when anyone is hurt emotionally or physically they should cry. It is a natural human emotion and I think stifling tears can't be good. I think some people use crying as a tool to blackmail people emotionally but true tears are good for everyone. Real men do cry!

Being a boy, and being a frank person let me tell you that it is really a matter of prestige for boys to cry. As your father said, "Boys Don't Cry" Boys are characterized by being emotionally stronger and more stubborn. Hey hey, don't think that i am offending the second gender by saying this. But i can tell you from my personal experience that its not everytime that boys do not cry. Boys do cry when something hurts a lot and it isnt controllable. There are some BOYS-RELATED issues which make us cry. But still, its not everytime and on every small or big thing.

Well, I have a son and he can cry whenever he wants. I wont stop him from showing his emotions. And I think it's wrong for someone to say or tell their boys that "boys don't cry" its so wrong. We are all human and we all have the rights to express our feelings.

I think that saying is a throw back to the days when men were men. I personally think that real men cry. they are not scared to have and show their emotions. The problem with so many marriages is that men can't and won't talk about the way they feel..because boys don't cry.

Even in my country, we tend to teach boys not to cry and be strong. A boy who drops tears will be a shame thing. So when you can see a man who is tearful, you can know that he is really sad at that time.

I think the smiles and tears, like most real human feelings, whether girls or boys, have used the power of these feelings, but from birth to boys were told not cry, perhaps some people in the cries of the weak performance, their self-esteem is not Certainly they do not real time weep or cry out better.

maybe your father said it so as to appoint the boys the mark of a leader, that is, hold you emotions. but in the long run, boys really and will sooner cry. nobody cannot hold his or her tears. maybe we couldnt see it at the very moment but later on, true feelings, especially when we are hurt, shows.... boys cry!

I do know some men that occasionally cry, but they seriously try to hide their emotions because they're told to be a man and not show them. I wouldn't be angry or make fun of a guy for crying.
