I know not many people in this forum watches japanese series, but I just finished the first episode of this and it's so cool that i just had to share it with someone!
The series is called Liar Game. Obviously, the series is based around a lying game, the rules are:
- one player vs. one player, but players can feel free to get non-players to help.
- each player is given 100,000,000 yen at the beginning, which is $1,058,153 AUD or $864,536 USD, if you're from somewhere else, go look up the conversions yourself.
- at the end of the game, you give the 100,000,000 yen back to the game master, if you've mangaed to get money off the other player, that's your reward i.e. your maximum reward is 100,000,000 yen. But if you lost money to the other guy, then you'd have to borrow money to repay the game master, i.e. if you suck, you'd be in 100,000,000 yen debt at the end of the game.
- there are no other rules, you can cheat, you can steal, you can rob the other guy, and it's not against the law because you've both agreed to the terms (just don't steal from someone else)
If you were a thief, wouldn't you think that's such a cool game? Well... only if you were a good thief.
Anyways, the main character who accidentally joins the game is a very very gullible girl, she can fall for the same trick over and over and over again, e.g. once, someone sent an annoynomous note to her that says 'wait for me at the school entrance after school' (she's a high school girl) and she waited for 5 hrs before she gave up and left, and this has happened multiple times!
So, now, little miss naive and gullible has to win this lying game or be in serious debt. And of cause, the expected happens - she loses the entire lot of money within a day!
Fortunately, she meets a non-player who's great at this sort of thing who said he'd help her, not only to get her money back, but also win the other guy's money. But in return he wants half her final prize, which, considering he's aiming to win the full 100,000,000 yen, half that, 50,000,000 yen, is still quite a bit.
I can't wait to see what happens.
