i am trying to lose a few pounds, especially around the waist area. to be honest i am not a fan of exercise, who really is?!?!? and i am a fairly picky eater... i don't eat seafood at all. i am looking for a good diet plan with food that is actually appetizing and yummy :-) if anyone has any good recipes or anything please post them. i don't eat seafood but most other things i will try at least once. i really just need to get rid of these extra pounds that are driving me completely nuts!!! i'm starting to feel like they will never go away :-( i've never been a vain person but i really feel like having this extra weight gone will be one less thing for me to worry about...
any help will be much appreciated :-) i will give positive ratings to all who apply thought to their response and i will pick a best response once i have 50 responses to choose from :-)

Hi,
I am not a big fan of diets, because I feel limiting ourselves dooms us to failure. I have tried so many diets in the past and could never stick to any one of them, except for a low sodium diet I am restricted to for health reasons (but that is not a choice!).
Nothing seemed to work for me. I tried low fat (gained on that one), low carb (lost weight but couldn't stay on it). Then I started really paying attention to portion control, and eating small amount frequently. That works for me. After about two weeks, the weight started falling off.
I do not deny myself anything I want (within reason of course), but I never eat more than a half cup of anything at a time, and I eat every half hour or so. If you look at the serving sizes on most food, you will see that one serving is usually a half cup. And when the nutrition pyramid says X number of servings of fruit a day, they don't mean a whole apple or a whole orange, they mean approx a half cup (about a half an apple or orange, etc).
I had no idea how much we over eat until I read what a serving size really is.
Sometimes it is hard to eat every half hour, so when I am working I take things along with me like carrot sticks, fruit, a sandwich (quartered, and I only eat a quarter of it at a time).
It is a lifestyle change and takes time to adjust to, but it is the only thing I have found that works for me long term.
I also exercise daily.
Good luck on your weight loss, and I hope you get a lot of good suggestions!

thank you very much for your response!!! i have heard that we are supposed to eat more than three times a day, with less at each meal... my husband has an over acidic stomach so he eats little snacks all throughout the day and he stays totally thin... that's got to be his secret!!! i am going to try this, but i am hoping i get some more responses so i have different ideas to choose from or maybe combine bits and pieces to suit me.

From what my fitness trainer told me, and what I have read in books and online, eating frequently in small amounts keeps the metabolism working at its highest constantly. When we skip meals and/or go long periods between eating, it slows down to preserve energy.
Another thing, be sure to drink the proper amount of water. It really does help flush out the toxins in our bodies and aides proper digestion.

I went on a low-glycemic index diet, almost 5 years ago, and have kept the weight off ever since. It came off without exercise, although I do excercise for health reasons anyway now.
I don't know if you've tried one before, but I highly recommend reading a book on the Glycemic Index and looking into why the diet works. The index is now printed on nutritional labels in Australia.
I was never one for fad diets, but changing to this way of eating has made it effortless to keep weight off.

Also, that NutriSystem follows the Glycemic Index and I have a girlfriend who lost a lot of weight from it, and she doesn't exercise at all either. I exercise so I'm a firm believer in both exercise and changing your eating habits. I don't like to say diet because you want something permanent in your life, not something that temporarily helps, you want to keep off the weight. I have some recipe ideas I'll get to you once I get home and I hope you like them........I'm at work right now, and working here too!! :)

The SeeFood Diet. I see food, I eat it!! Plain and simple if it is something I don't like, I don't eat it. When I am full, I stop eating.

I know you said your not a fan of exercise but perhaps you could try pilates. Its very low impact and has worked great for me and I haven't done diet changes. Dieting is hard for me, my other half won't diet and with a 10 month old quick food is easiest. Just a thought. Good luck!

Lots of boiled stuff (excluding potatoes)juices, salads.it helps to certain extent .
we need not go for serious dieting where we tend to sacrifice evrything.Thats a myth.

If your picky, weightwatchers is a good diet. You can eat what you want in moderate portion sizes, just count the points for it. Drink tons of water.
Another option that is more strict is to cut out most processed stuff and only eat them once a week or so as a treat. Eating stuff like whole grain bread, string cheese, lean meats, eggwhites, fruits and veggies, lowfat cheese and then one day a week have a splurge :) However on that plan you need to weight lift every other day and make sure you do some cardio. So you may like weightwatchers :)

i've heard if you don't allow yourself something you like for too long you will end up scarfing a bunch of it down one day... i certainly don't want to do the rollercoaster thing :-)

I don't consider it a "diet" but I am a vegetarian. :) I have been for over 9 years. It was an easy transition for me too. I am also a big fan of pilates and yoga! :)

i have many friends (and actually my step-mom too) that are vegetarians... while i have absolutely no problem with vegetarians and vegans... i could never switch, i love meat. i'm sorry if that offends anyone... but i love a big fat steak or a nice juicy pork chop and i'm sorry breakfast would never be the same without bacon!!! thanks for the response though, i am open to hearing all suggestions, just not all will be for me :-)

well have you heard the commerical on milk and milk products? eating 3 servings a day will help you lose more belly fat than not.. and they have something called Relacore i have heard is good.and they have something called t-lites... www.t-lite.net and i suggest going to the FAQ and look at some of the suggestions and answers they have given.. and have you heard of a free online diet and support www.sparkpeople.com it is good helps and gives you food and diet and exercise ideas... and take the little quizzes and it helps tell you what you will need to lose the weight.ummm cutting meats out totally for 2 weeks would be a good thing or longer if you can go that long without a steak or meat you like. you can also try the the negative calorie diet where you eat fruit and veggies and htings low in calories and your body burnes up more then you take in so you end up losing the weight i have lost 22 pounds first week on that diet..well i hope i helped even the tiniest bit...

i have seen the milk commercials that you are talking about... i'm not a big milk drinker but i am going to try to drink more from now on. i also like your idea about cutting out meat. i've heard you should try to stop eating meat (especially red meat) for at least a week a couple times a year to give your body a chance to clean out.
thank you very much for the link to t-lite also, i am going to check it out right now. i really appreciate your response, thank you for the time you put into answering my question :-)

The best way I've ever lost weight was by not eating anything processed.(for the most part). I quit eating bread, instead I ate granola or a potato. I still ate all meats, with seasoning, except salt (it makes you hold water). Instead of desert I'd drink a glass of orange juice or eat fruit. If I wanted something sweet, I put sugar on it. I lost 45 pounds in a little over 3 months. It's still what I do whenever I want to loose a couple extra pounds. It only takes 2-3 weeks. I am not an exersizer, so it worked for me. Just eat as natural as possible, not balance all food groups. I ate a protein, fruit/vegetable, and a starch at each meal. Plus, don't eat at least 2 hours before you go to bed. I don't like water, so I added some fresh fruit to it- it tasted good to me then.

Hi, you know I feel the same way too. I dont like what I see in the mirror.. I am not fat. In fact everyone tells me that I'm thin. But still I feel like I want to lose weight. It makes me sick inside and depressed when I compare myself with how thin I should be. This whole thing to look pretty is just crazy these days. Why can't we just eat what we like and not try to starve ourselves just to be thin...
Deep inside I just want to be happy and contended. I really just want to lose some more weight.. FASt.
