You are what goes through your mind. What are your thoughts about it?

The mind, we are all influenced by it. It creates our perceived realities. Only a few reach the state where they truly master their own mind and by doing so become real masters of their life.
One who became a real master describes the effect of the mind like this:
"Everything is based on mind, is led by mind, is fashion by mind.
If you speak and act with a polluted mind, suffering will follow you,
As the wheel of the oxcart follow the footstep of the ox.
Everything is based on mind, is led by mind, is fashion by mind.
If you speak and act with a pure mind, happiness will follow you,
As a shadow clings to a form."
Buddha
Are we what goes through our mind? Or there is a power much greater than the mind - The spirit which resides in our hearts? What are your thoughts about this?
Thanks.:-)

may i. lol. i think that there is something inside us that very well knows what should be done, what is right and what is wrong, we can call it instinct if we may like, or the thought of the heart.every person has learned so much from the society and end experiences that one knows what is right or wrong. for example evry one will agree that charity is good but some will say choose who you give too then it depends on you who you give to but in any case when you give you feel good, some one might not give that charity to a lazy person thinking "no he doesnt deserve it" another will say" so what who am i to judge?" and will give the charity to the lazy person. the joy of giving is in both but who would you say has a bigger heart, i would say the person who didnt think that the lazy person didnt deserve charity and gave with a smiling heart without judging. and i feel that the non judgemental person recieved more joy in giving because he just did it without giving nuch thought to it.
the want of life is to be joyous and the role of the mind is to acquire knowledge and percieve realities but when it comes to emotions that make life colorful then we need our heart to guide us. it is easy , one must follow the simple instruction of the heart to be happy and keep the heart clean. how? the process is simple ,prayers, kindness, love, well wishes and patience. let the mind follow the heart and not the other way round. this is what i have to say.
smiles, apple.

Hi eprado! I believe that we can control our thoughts - hence, you say that we are what goes through our mind. It's correct. Try to consider this. Think of something that is really hurting you - your frustrations, pains and scars. Do you think you'd smile outside? Do you think the outcome is something that you're happy? You'll be depressed, right?
So, how about changing your thoughts into beautiful things. It projects a positive aura. :) Right? =)
Hmmm.. Let me just rephrase what you said above. You act the way what your thoughts are. :)
Take care and God bless! \(",)_

I often wondered why I respond to a situation the way I respond. Interestingly, I have responded to the same event in different ways at different times. To the extent that one response can be opposite to the previous response. Why?
I have searched for answers. Nothing seems to be final, but I think it is something to do with my beliefs. If my belief about the situation changes, my response changes, even if the situation is the same.

Hello sweetcakes, I think that maybe it because most people act the way they do or decide to do thing base on what their beliefs are. The manner that we are brought up and beliefs we are taught at home or school may also have had some factors on the way we think or response to a given situation.
Thank you. :-)

I agree that we are what goes through our mind. Actually, thoughts are stored in the mind first. We act in a situation, as per our past expierence and stored throughts in our mind. As we grow older, we tend to form fixed opinions about a certain situation and we act according to our own perceptions in that situation.
Without storage of thoughts, mind would remain empty and it is for us how we can use and utilise our storage capacity.

i think this is right my friend but whatever you think will not always be through unless it became an action or you have/will do/done it actually. i guess we are the master of ourself and what we think or believe in will reflect with our actions. that's what i think.

Absolutely brilliant is what I think of this.
I couldn;t have read this at a better time in my lief. For so long my mind has been filled with not nice thoughts horrible stuff that I@ was putting together because of all the stuff I had been through in my past. But irrational thinking makes negative lives. I learnt that yesterday and since then I have been pushing any negative thoughts out of my head and opting for the positive side of my minds arguement.
Hopefully very no I will not say hopefully I will say very soon for definate my life will change into what my mind has changed into
Clean fresh and ready for anything - to take on the world
Thank you

I would say the mind and spirit in the heart are one in the same.

We usually are what goes through our minds. This is a fair statement. I think we have to be careful about who we are around as well because other people can influence us. So I think having a positive mentality and environment helps with the mindset as well.

Simple.. A person or a human-being is known for what he says, he's feelings and by his actions. We are all responsible for our actions, as we are all accountable for everything we say. When a person has clear minds, we know that he is a good person.
To which, wisdom is greater than knowledge.
