Hi everyone, I just need your opinion on a very important problem in my life. I have a 6 year old son and he is around 48 lbs. I think that he is way to skinny forhis age. He has a twin sister and her body is way more filled out then his. Has anyone encountered this problem before with there children. He goes to the doctors and alll, she never said anything. He does run and play alot so maybe he is burning off alot of fat I dont know. Please Help!!!!

It might just be his body size. Does he eat like he should? When we first got custody of my step-daughter she was really skinny too. Hers was from not eating though, her mother never cooked only fed her lunchables and gas station hot dogs. Once she started sitting down to meals and eating with a family she has filled out and is so much healthier.

Hi, this is a very common problem people face and we as mothers generally tend to get worried on small things so easily.
Yes, i know if you would have gone to the doctor their only answer would be if hes happy, playful, healthy, eating well etc, then forget about it, hes alright. But its what mothers keep feeling for their child, as we compare and tend to look around and see other kids his own age and cant stop feeling and thinking that he is skinny.
If hes having a proper well balanced diet, just like your daughter and is keeping well, please do not worry, as each child has his own nature and body structure. Some develop faster than others, some take their own time, but eventually if hes well and eating properly, then wait for sometime, he would become alright like others whom you see around. And never try to compare kids, as each one is special in their own ways. I know we cannot help that being mothers, but just a suggestion too.
Regarding him burning the fat off etc, whatever the kids eat they do keep burning it out, we cannot stop them from playing and running isnt it. Maybe you can try to give him some carbohydrate rich diet, or things like that, so that he can put on some weight, though personally i dont think there is any requirement if hes eating healthy. Please do not worry :)

I wouldn't be too concerned, i just thought back to when my siblings & i were young & my brother was also much smaller than my sister & i, he was very active, he ate normally & was always still skinnier than we were.
I think boys just have a naturally higher metabolism - well most of them anyway - which is why they don't put on a lot of weight like us girls do!
Just make sure he eats like he should, make sure it's healthy but still has certain fats in it & i'm sure he'll be fine!
Also, if your Dr hasn't said anything about it then she probably doesn't think there's anything wrong with him. If you're concerned, ask her the next time you go & see her - just make sure she's hapy with his weight & build & if she thinks he's ok then you have nothing to worry about!

Doe she eat? I'm guessing if the Doc doesn't point it out it isn't a problem...some people are skinny just like some are fat.

Honey since you have had the twins to the Dr. and they probaly were weighed and the Dr. didn't say any thing then you son is doing fine. I raised 4 children and three of them looked so thin you would think a breeze would bloow them away at the same age. In fact my oldest sone looked like a sneeze would send him across the room until he went into the army. The boy that came home was not reconizable because he had filled out so much. Lots of muscles. back then when you saw the little kids going to kindergarden and 1st grade you would think those kids can't be old enough to go to school. As long as your son is eating healthy and getting plenty of reast and not cranky he is doing fine. This is just one of those growing stages he is going through. There will be a lot of strange stage as the kids grow up.

But I would say he is fine.My hubby has a sister and brother that are twins also. You would never know they were twins. The boy is about 3 inches taller and weighs alot more than his twin sister.I am thinking they have the same doctor.I am sure she sees the differance between them.If you feel this unsure take to another doctor and see what he or see has to say about it.

HI! My daughter is 6 also and she only weights 35 pounds, so I wouldn't think there is anything wrong with your son. Unless he is really tall and super skinny. All kids are different sizes so if your doctod isn't worried I would't be either. He probably just has a high metabolism so he burns calories easily.

hey michele609! I don't think you have anything to worry here. Being skinny is normal for most growing children. I was real skinny when I was young but now I'm having a hard time controlling my weight. LOL. Boys really gain weight at a later time in life. Relax. Your son is very normal. Have a great day!

Hello! As a toddler i was very fat but as i started to grow i became small and skinny and it was very normal. Its just because alot of kids have a faster metabolisism than others and burn up fat more quicker. That was what i had and still am small and i eat like a pig.The doctor said its because my metabolism was much higher than others at burning up fat and using it for energy. My daughter is 4 1/2 years old and weighs 36 pounds, shes just right the doctor says.Your son maybe just small made and when he starts his growth spurts look out!he might become full of muscles.I have low body fat but replaced with more muscle mass.I wouldnt worry at all, kids are all different even if they are twins. And if my mom remembers right i was around this weight too at his age.Hes made not to keep body fat,but instead burn it off by playing and his fast metabolism rate.(Burning of sugars and fats in the body).

He seems like a good weight to me. I have a 7 year old girl and she is tall and weighs 41 pounds. She has days where she eats alot and days where she just wants snacks. Kids are pretty hyper at these ages and tend to burn it all up. I think your son is fine, I know it can be alarming, cause I have asked my daughters doctor many times, "why is she not gaining weight". His response is she is fine and will either catch up with weight or just be thinner. She just may have the skinny gene. ha ha Hang in there.
