Owen Wilson no longer a good actor?

Owen Wilson - My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

It has been mentioned many times, which is disgusting, but I understand actors are a commodity and less of a person now adays, that Owen Wilson’s value as an actor may be tarnished by the latest news of his possible suicide attempt. So this sparked a question for me, does an actor’s quality drops due to his/her personal life? For me yes to an extent. If an actor were found guilty of hurting a child for instance, I would boycott every movie their face appeared in. However as for personal issues such as Mr. Wilson’s, no. We are all human and to have an imperfection from depression to a drug addiction (not suggesting Owen has one) is a flaw, but not a behavior to be scorned over. Not in my opinion any ways, but hey we all have one, so what’s yours on this? How do you feel about it and why? ? ? ? Thanks to all in advance. ? ? ?

I feel so bad about Owen Wilson. I loved him in Meet the Parents, You Me and Dupree and Night at the Museum. I hope he gets the help he needs and can someday go back to acting. His personal problems don't affect my view of him as an actor at all. I think the media should give him the privacy he needs right now. My prayers are with him!

Yes I so agree, the media should back off, but you know them, they won't. Even though little has been released as to what happened, leave it to the media to create what they don't know. I just hope they back off and let the man be in peace to heal.

People are people. It doesn't matter what walk of life they are from. We are all human. Humans make mistakes. The sad part of a celebrities life is that everything they do is plastered all over the media for public viewing.

The sad part of a celebrities life is that everything they do is plastered all over the media for public viewing. This is true and IMO it's this obsession the tabloids have with them that I think is causing many their problems that they have.

"does an actor’s quality drops due to his/her personal life?" I think, like you, that it depends on the happenings in his/her personal life...if its an abuse thing or a serious offence against someone else for example then YES the damage is done and I'm no longer interested in seeing that persons work (though thats not to say the "quality" of their acting has gotten any worse...its their rep that gets slaughtered IMO)...but in the Wilson case..no not at all..in fact it would/will make me MORE inclinded to see his movies etc simply becuase doing what he does for a living as IMO affected him in such a manner ya know..he puts himself through thsi hell in order to please us to some extent ya know...

he puts himself through thsi hell in order to please us to some extent ya know... wow that is so true, they do. An actor just doesn't walk up there and put the show on, they spend months living in a roll so they can do it will, all for us. Great point!

It amazes me how much our views are alike. I feel like I come off as a mirror to you because we have the same views on things. In cases of child abuse my opionon would change on the person - like you said. But for other reasons no not so much. I understand that these are just people and they make the same mistakes and have the same problems we do. Except we usually don't have the media (or at least on a larger scale) reporting about it. I actually think this more humanizes Owen than anything else. I find it terribly sad that he got to that point, hope he gets the help he needs, and I wish him all the best. It just goes to show you that fame, money, ect can't make you happy. Yes they can add to the value of your life but it can also take value away. I think the only way these situations make a person a worse actor is if they bring it on screen with them. If his future performances are less than what they were because of his depression issues then that's the only way I would see him as a bad actor.

I agree with you sunshinecup. Actors are people just the same as anyone else; we all have our ups and downs throughout life, and they are no different. Owen Wilson must just be going through a bad patch in his life at the moment and we should be understanding towards that. What he has done is a cry for help, and it certainly wouldn't put me off him as an actor.

You are so right, we are just humans and pain is the same to an actor as it is to you or I. Thanks for the wonderful reply.

The only thing that I thought when I heard the news was how very sad it was. I would not look at him any differently except to hope that he is working to resolve his problems and getting better. There are other actors out there that have revealed a bit too much about their personal lives that it is hard to distinguish them from the person they are portraying in the movies. For instance, Tom Cruise, I find it difficult now to see the person he's playing instead I see him jumping up and down on Oprah's couch. With enough time, and no more weird acts or interviews and I will probably begin to see him in his roles again. Shame, because I think he's a great actor. Owen Wilson, however, has not sullied his image with me!!

Well for me actors and actresses come and go. Just like an ordinary person, at a certain point of their life they will shine. And then after that, everything is just an ordinary day. Yes, we all have our imperfections as a person and I think everyone should forgive somebody who has sinned, because even the Lord up above forgives us for everything.

I definately think some things affect a entertainer's career. A few years ago, a popular country all girl group made some very impolite remarks about the President of the US while on tour in another country. Several radio stations, tv stations and stores quit playing their songs and selling their merchandise. I don't think that a entertainer's personal problems such as Mr. Wilson's should be a factor in his career. Everyone has rough patches and moves on. I've liked the movies he's been in and I think he's a very talented actor. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~
