What was your reaction when you first saw your dog?

My initial reaction when I first saw Ashley, was total disbelief. My husband and I learned about her from a classified ad. Her former owner was selling her because he couldn't take care of all of his dogs anymore. They were 6 of them, I think. So, my husband back then was so excited in having a breed like hers. Before he was actually deciding if we should get a Labrador or a German Shepard (is this the correct spelling?). So, we decided on the Shepard and we found her on the ads. When her owner brought her to the house, we were informed before through phone that she was only 4 months old. And when I finally saw her, I was really shocked how big she was. Here in my country, native dogs are just only half the size of her. And those dogs are already adults. I asked the owner twice if she's really only 4 months old. And then the owner explained to me that her breed are really big. But that I should not be afraid of her because she's a gentle dog. My husband then bought a book about Shepards so we would know how to take proper care of her. Now, she's almost 5 years old and I hope she'll have a longer and healthier life. She's actually the biggest dog in our subdivision. Most of the dogs here are native ones and just her mere bark scares them off. I remember one time when I brought her to a free vaccine shot given by the home owners association. The vet, who was so used to giving shots to native dogs, almost fell out of her seat when she turned and saw Ashley. She admitted that she wasn't used to seeing Shepards and she was surprised how big they are. Most visitors who come by our house are really afraid of her. But I assure them that once she "evaluates" them and that they are harmless, she really turns playful with them.

I felt a pain in my heart. My buddy had been abused and abandoned. He looked so bad I just instantly loved him. He's such a blessing to me. He's come a long way with love and gentleness.

Hello teek. That's so sad. I've witnessed before firsthand a dog being kicked visciously by its owner. Dogs are really man's bestfriend. Their loyalty and love are unconditional. You're heaven sent for Buddy. Now, he has the love and gentlenes that he truly needs. God Bless, teek!
